I've Never Been So Afraid in My Life

The job I lost

Employee Benefit Account Manger/Certified in Flex Compensation. My previous employer called 20 out of 80 staff to conference room and read from a paper, "those in this room are no longer an employee of this company". Gave us 15 minutes under security escort to pack up and leave. Then I had to sign a non compete (I was stupid to do so) just to have insurance for 2 months. Still unemployed, savings gone just to pay COBRA, finally quit that, just received notice on Friday June 8 2012 I have 90 days to get out of my house because I can't pay the mortgage. At age 58, is this age or wage discrimination?

What it's like being unemployed

After a year of this, I feel cheated, deflated, defeated, worthless..do I need to go on? I can no longer give to my favorite charities. My parish gets extremely very little. I have never been so afraid in my life. I think I no longer believe in "right to work" States. Now the CEO makes 400K plus a 200K bonus potential and is just gone public. My unemployment is on the last couple weeks and I've dropped my income requirements 20K...guess Sallie Mae (parent plus loans on a now sick potentially terminal adult child) will not be paid off in the near future.

Advice

  • Corporate American needs to stop being greedy. Those "mature workers" you let go so you could make your pocket fat, have families that will also stop doing business with you.
