The job I lost

I lost my job Dec. 5, 2010 in a mass layoff. I was an excellent employee with nothing but the best evaluations. I was loyal for 23yrs. I was a casino dealer. Our casino was bought and it was out with the old in with his relatives. See you later 20,30 year employees and good luck in your career search.

What it's like being unemployed

I started there at 5 dollars an hr. and worked for tips as a casino dealer. They were 10 dollars in 1988. Because of the recession our tips became less but over the years our base pay went up. It was tough but it was full-time with benefits and vacation time. We all grew up there for 20 yrs. or more. We were like a family. We kept the business going and made a decent living. We went into foreclosure and were struggling to stay open. We were praying someone would buy us and save us. Well we got sold somebody bought us but some of us didn't get hired by the new owner.

I've been off 6 weeks. and can't find a job. I went to the meeting at unemployment and they treat you like your trash. I'm on the computer 6 hours a day. I am going to go back to school at 52 yrs. old and hope somebody will hire me. I own a house, have 2 adult children living with me. They have good jobs but only part-time no benefits. This country stinks. Oh, and did I forget to tell you they replaced us with Vietnamese dealers at 4.30 an hr. So now if I don't get a job I will put my house up for sale. Move south, and start over. Thank you America where the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.

Advice

  • I am going to suck it up. Go back to school for whatever is in demand and get another job. I hope.
