I Have Only Learned How to Play the Game

How I was discriminated against

Baby Boomers were brought up to admire the experience of senior workers. Now it's all about "Face". Recently, I relocated to Florida thinking that an older demographic would work to my advantage. I was tired and frustrated; wasting my time and money going to fake interviews designed to fulfill Department of Labor regulations. Well. here's my latest story: The VA(Miami) HR Dept. asked me in 'what year' I had graduated from college. Clearly a catch-22 situation. I answered and now regret having done so. It amazes me that my own age group appears to be the worst offenders.

What it's like being an older or younger job seeker

How can we maintain self-respect in light of having to play these games? Eventualy the well seasoned applicant has to attend the employment interview. Perhaps it's time to include Plastic Surgery in your unemployment benefits! (Just Joking).

Lessons Learned

  • Sorry, I have only learned ways to play the game. Joining LinkedIn is good but any HR pro recognizes the omission of dates in a targeted or functional Resume. I would suggest finding a support group or starting one on Meetup.com./li>
