How I was discriminated against
I am 55 years old, with 30 yrs of office experience, management, etc. I am constantly being told I am over qualified and I would not be happy. I actually believe it is because of my age.
What it's like being an older or younger job seeker
There is still some companies out there which offer benefits,i.e.health insurance, etc. I believe my age plays a major role in that because they do not want to offer benefits to me because I may have health issues.
I am looking for a honest job, I don't care if I receive benefits or not, just a paycheck. I have been a constant worker for 35 years and not until 2 years ago, have I had to draw unemployment.
I send out resume after resume and answer all ads I see or hear about. I have only been granted a handful of interviews. It is not a good experience, when you know you can make a difference for someone in their company. Your self esteem is not very high, and in some ways it's very depressing.
Lessons Learned
- I do not have any advice, just pray and keep a positive attitude and hope things change.
