How I was discriminated against

I am 61 and I served in the US Navy. I worked for a factory in the state of KY for 38 years. I had a great work record. In may of 2009 I was told I would be let go due to lack of work.

Only I could not understand why people with less time than me kept their jobs there. It is not a union company so I knew there was little I could do. No one would come in my defense for fear of losing there job.

Every time I see my children and grandchildren they tell me I look bad and I should see a doctor. When I lost my job, Ii lost insurance. I eat very little and I am very deprssed and scared.

What it's like being an older or younger job seeker

Being 61, company's look at my health.I limp when I walk with arthritis. I have it in my feet and hands from years of grinding sheet metal in the factory.I feel they think I would not be very fast.

I only missed 1 day at my last job and I never was late. However that doesn't seem to matter. Even with good work ethics I feel the work force has became for the young. Over the year no one of the 55 companies Iapplied at has even gave me a interview less alone a chance.

I am a hard worker and a honest person.being a job seeker at 61 makes me feel like world thinks you should just die. That you are taking up space in there world. They dont care that I am losing my home or my husband is very sick.

Lessons Learned

  • I wish I could give advice. Or get advice. I don't know how this country can allow this people are hungry and homeless. Maybe congress should live our lives day by day.Maybe then when they go hungry and see there love ones suffer. dued to lack of food and shelter and medicine.
