I Stuck Out Like a Sore Thumb

What Happened During The Interview?

My brother in law Vince had worked in the printing warehouse for the Arizona Republic for several years as a second job. He was scheduled to work Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights for an excellent hourly wage. A position came open, although I had no warehouse experience, none was required. I applied and was called for an interview. I went dressed up like I did for all interviews in a dress, nylons and heels. I stuck out like a sore thumb!! The minute I walked in and saw everyone in jeans, t-shirts and tennis shoes I knew immediately that I was too over dressed and didn't quite fit in.

How Did the Interview Turn Out?

I was not offered the position. But was told that I gave everyone a good chuckle. (i had difficulty walking around the big printing presses in my heels.) I was always told to wear your Sunday best when being interviewed for any position.

Advice

  • When interviewing for a position dress appropriately for the position in which you are applying. Jeans and a nice cotton blouse with flat shoes would of been a much better choice.
