Trade Readjustment Allowances (TRA)

By , About.com Guide

Definition: Trade Readjustment Allowances (TRA) provide income to workers whose jobs were affected by foreign imports and who have exhausted unemployment compensation benefits.

Benefits under the Trade Adjustment Assistance (TRA) program are available for workers who were laid off or had hours reduced because their employer was negatively affected by increased imports from other countries. TRA benefits include paid training for a new job, financial help in making a job search in other areas, or relocation to an area where jobs are more plentiful.
