Unemployment Benefit Rate

Definition: The unemployment benefit rate is the amount of money an unemployed worker is entitled to for each week of unemployment.

Unemployment benefits vary by state. In, New York, for example, the weekly benefit rate is equal to 1/26 of the compensation paid during the highest calendar quarter of the base period up to a weekly maximum benefit rate. The current maximum weekly benefit is $405.

The base period is typically the year worked or four out of the last five quarters.

Check with your state unemployment office website for information on the unemployment benefit rate in your location.
