Definition: The Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA) protects the job rights of those who voluntarily or involuntarily leave employment positions to partake in military service.

Service members have the right to be reemployed to their civilian jobs if they leave to perform uniformed service. USERRA prevents employers from discriminating against members of, and applicants to, uniformed service. .

Examples:
Not hiring a worker because of he or she is a service member and might be deployed is discrimination.
