First Paycheck

By , About.com Guide

Definition: The amount you receive in your first paycheck depends on deductions for federal, state, and local taxes.

When you receive your first paycheck depends on the timing of the company's payroll.

Employees typically receive a paycheck either weekly or bi-weekly. Paychecks may be issued at the end of each pay period worked or there may be a lag and your paycheck may issued a week or two, or longer, after you worked.

At the latest, you should be paid by the company's regular pay date for the first pay period that you worked. Check with your company's payroll or human resources department if you're not sure when to expect your first paycheck.
