Your thank you notes don't need to all be handwritten. It's definitely acceptable to say thank you via email or a LinkedIn message - especially if you want to relay your thanks immediately.
When sending email messages, be sure that the Subject Line of your email address includes "Thank You" and include your name, too, if you don't know the person you are writing to well.
For example, the Subject of your message could say: Thank You From Jane Doe.
