Before You Buy Portfolios, Planners and Organizers

By Alison Doyle, About.com

I still keep track of appointments and meetings the old-fashioned way - with a planner. A planner will assist with keeping track of where you've sent your resume, who you've networked with, and when you are going to follow-up. I treasure my leather portfolio which was a gift from a boss years ago. It's the perfect solution for carrying a resume, references and a notepad.

Planners and Organizers

Use an appointment book to keep track of interviews and all the follow-up email messages and phone calls you'll need to make.  There are a variety of sizes available, ranging from pocket-size to full-size for your desktop. A desk calendar is also useful for planning. You can see a month-at-a-glance and easily schedule appointments or interviews.

Portfolios and Pad Holders

Are you ready to impress when you go on an interview? A must have for job seekers is a leather portfolio or notepad holder, with room for a pad to take notes while you interview and inside pocket for extra copies of your resume, business cards, and a pen.

Briefcases

Nothing makes as much of a good impression as a good quality briefcase. If you have an art portfolio, for example, or other projects you need to bring to an interview, consider a briefcase.
