Thanksgiving Week Job Searching

By November 27, 2013

Even though Thanksgiving is a time when most people are focusing on family, football, shopping and celebrating the holiday, it doesn't mean that hiring comes to a screeching halt. For many companies, the only day off is Thursday and the rest of the week is business as usual.

That's why you shouldn't shut down your job search just because it's a holiday week. It's important not to miss out on emails or phone calls from prospective employers. Staying connected can give you an edge over other applicants who don't check email or messages.

As long as you have the right job search tools, you won't have any problems accessing voicemail, email, or the Internet and you don't need to bring your laptop if you're traveling or turn on your computer at home.

If you have an iPhone, another smartphone, or an iPad get your device ready ahead of time and you'll be set for mobile job searching. Download job search iPhone apps to search for and apply for jobs, email job listings, keep track of your contacts, and even create a resume.

Family time is important and you don't need to spend all your time job searching, but if you spend even a few minutes a day keeping your job search on track, you won't have to play catch-up after Thanksgiving.
