Job OfferHave you been offered a new job? First, of all, congratulations! It's not easy to get an offer in this job market. That said, once you have an offer on the table, you may be able to negotiate a better deal.

What's the best way to negotiate a job offer? First of all, don't say "yes" on the spot. Ask for a couple of days to think it over. Then take the time to evaluate the job offer so you are making an informed decision and you're sure you want the job.

Consider the entire job offer including job responsibilities, salary, benefits, perks, hours, company culture, work environment, flexibility, the commute, and the other factors that matter most to you when you think about what you'd like to be doing in your next job.

Make a list of the pros and cons - writing it down can help clarify whether this is the right job for you. If there are some things that you're not happy with on the list consider whether there is room to negotiate. Could you possibly work a day per week from home, for example, or juggle your schedule to accommodate child care drop-off or pick-up?

Here's how to research and negotiate a job offer, plus salary negotiation strategies and tactics, so you can successfully negotiate a compensation package.
