Labor Day Holiday Pay

Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is the holiday that celebrates the accomplishments of American workers, but there are many who have to work on Labor Day.  

Despite the occasion,  not everyone is entitled to be paid for the holiday, to receive vacation pay if you take the day off, or to be paid overtime if you work extra hours this holiday weekend.

The Federal Government provides employees with nine paid holidays each year. Private sector employees may provide holidays off or holiday pay for working on a holiday, but they are not required to pay you extra for time worked on a holiday or to give you the day off from work.
