The Economy

I agree with all of you. I was on unemployment through Maryland due to they pay slightly more and I was eligible due to the last quarter I worked there. I am now in Delaware and had to reapply from the beginning. There is now a 3 week hold and they are evaluating if I am eligible when Maryland already had done that. It is a disgrace that we all have paid in to unemployment and some of us, like myself for over 30 plus years and have to fight for our rights. My family also has too much income due to my fiance has a job. However, he could leave tomorrow and then there would be no income whatsoever. I guess then I would be eligible, homeless but eligible. This country is falling to pieces and its just a shame for us who have children, and this is their future. By the way also I have a paralegal degree and a B.S. in Finance.

What's Happened to This Country?

18 years of schooling -- I thought this was the best way to stay ahead. After 25 years at a large Telecom corporation, I received a call at 10:00AM telling me my job was going to Singapore but I wasn't going with it. I never lived above my means but I was making a great salary. Same day, same company, same time, they laid off my partner. We went from $160,000.00 a year to $2,000.00 a month. My benefits stopped and I am decimating my 401K. Every Third World country gets help from our country with our money. This is 2011 and people are living in tents, on the street. It sickens me that Bush is walking around a free man with millions when he should be in jail. Republicans do not have the right to run this country because they have proven time after time they only care about money and do not give one thought about us. They only care about their tax breaks. God help us if a Republican gets in. Say goodbye to Medicare and Unemployment Insurance. Say hello to a drop in minimum wage and drug testing before you can get assistance, if they don't wipe that out. This is not my USA.

life

Wow a ton of people are suffering. Currently I'm jobless, have an infected galbladder, in good health, and have a smile on my face. A miracle is about to occur that I may qualify for a program to have my bladder removed. My question is should I bother? Or make peace with God, let my bladder explode, and call it a life? I'm 30 years old, not married, have a great family, in somewhat of a hole. Maybe I'm a psycho for thinking this way....but when employers are telling me I'm overqualifued for a bank job, and a divided govnt, who's the psycho?

When Will Our USA Take Care of Our Own

I'm the same boat as the many other 50 over unemployed. I have worked hard all my life, paid taxes, ss, supported our goverment, but I'm about ready to lose everything I've worked my whole life for! Why can't our goverment help bail us out like they did for the banks and other countries. Take care of your own first! The people who help build this county and have made it what it is. I am a proud American, but I'm slowly losing faith!

Down and Unemployed

I have been unemployed for almost 3 years. I was laid off from a major corporation because my job was taken by someone from India. I have run out unemployment benefits. I have an engineering degree and many years of management experience, however, no one wants to hire me. This is so depressing. I have had one interview and the manager told me that he had reservations on hiring me because I had worked at a major corporation.

Nowhere to Turn

I'm a 30 year old black male. I've worked since I was 14 years old, until Oct 2009 when the chemical company I worked for decided to move out of the country. I have put in for over 3000 jobs with no call back. As of July 30, my unemployment ran out and I don't know what to do. It's like no one understands what people who lose their jobs through no fault of their own go through. Where can I turn? Who will help me?

Perspectives to determination

With my UE experience I learned to adjust not only my living habits, reduce, reuse & rely on outside help, but I had to learn how to cope w/ these changes AND how to still be emotionally, mentally & professionally stable. In my state, unemployment is higher than the national average at 9.4%.Some people see problems, worry, fears, unsolvable issues, etc... however the people that make it out of the bottom & move up have a better lifestyle 'cause they THINK differently w/different perspectives. Call it the LAW OF ATTRACTION or pray without ceasing & with expectancy of answered prayers-whichever it is just remember, there is 90% of people in America that DO have jobs even though the economy has forced us to change our spending & living habits (which I think is a good thing) there is still hope. DON'T get stuck in fear, don't get hung up on the pain & that all things are going wrong. Instead focus on the possibilities, potential & work on your attitude, beliefs, abilities. & determination!

Jobs

well, you can also do some thing old fasion, like a lemonade stand, or MAYBE you can make a resturant, if your family is a good cook but if your like 14 then you can work for a market, anywho, my point is, is start out with something easy. Don't be thinking for maybe something like a 10-16 year old doing a job like your parents, not unless if you are REALLY smart.

Keep Hustling

Do not stop and sit in a room if things are bad -- get out pick up cans for 10 hours a day or mow the neighbor's lawn. If you can only make an extra $20 a day, it is $120 a week. This is not a lot, but it will keep you striving for more and you will eventually meet some person who will see you're worth taking a chance on. Believe me I was there -- no benefits, broke and almost on street, 2 babies and wife to feed, college degree but no one cared. I had my own business but went bust, no one wants someone who may have lived the dream but now is busted. I did what I said above and one day I met a guy while picking up cans who gave me a chance. It's not the best job in world but where else am i gonna make $6.50 an hour in this place that used to be the land of opportunity.

Had to Give Away Everything I Loved

I'm 31 and I've been unemployed for 4 years. I don't get benefits or help from anyone. I lost my house and had to give away everything I loved (pets). My husband hates me. I've had lots of interviews, but no luck. My mum kicked me out after one night for crying (in her words, get over it). I have no one to turn to. My grandparents said they would help but they are old to worry about me and after my mum told me not to dare going to them for help. So I was left with no one. I wish i knew where my sister is because I need someone. I feel so alone and unwanted. Everyone leaves me.

Nice guys over 40 finish last

Gotta face fellas, everyone who has either exhausted his UI Benefits or is close to it, that's the end of the road. I have been unemployed since 2/09, a number of interviews right to the finals only to hear the same thing that one of the other gentleman said... nothing. I hear nothing! I'm 53, have always aced the interview, multiple offers... it's over. I don't give a crap even if we have ss checks given to us. It is not nearly enough. I went from having a beautiful wife, a condo in one of the best areas of town, two cars...I am homeless now and have been for 1 yr. Thank you very much america! But don't forget to help Pakistan first. Oh and thank you very much georgie boy. Obama walked into a mess. None of this is his fault!

Need Help

I've been unemployed since 2009 after losing my job. I've applied for thousands of jobs and I have tons of experience in, still no job. Now I have received my final unemployment check and rent and bills are soon due. Sadly, I am out of options and I will have nowhere to go.

Organize

These stories are so sad and so unnecessary. Look at MoveOn.org and other progressive websites. There are people who are organized to help the working class ( or the looking for work class). Like many of you, my sister who is 53 worked hard all her life, was laid off after 22 years when the company was sold, and cannot find work. She interviews well and is told how fantastic she would be, but is not hired in the end. So what is she supposed to do? Her Unemployment runs out in a few weeks. This is a national SHAME. All we have left is our vote and our NUMBERS.
