Don't Waste My Time

Recently I was called in for an interivew from one of the many jobs I've applied for. The first thing the interviewer says to me is "this isn't a formal interview. I just wanted to meet you and give you a tour." He doesn't ask me any questions so I decide to find ways to compliment certain aspects of the "non formal interview tour" by way of explaining how my experience compliments the position they are trying to fill. The interviewer still refrains from asking ANY questions whatsoever--he just smiles and nods as I explain my experience, skills, and work related education. At the end of the interivew, he tells me that he will be calling me back for a second invitation to complete the formal interview. I never heard from them again. Ironically, the HR rep that called to set up the "interview" was impressed with my skills, experience, etc., and thought I was a perfect fit for the position. So why did the jackass waste my time when I certainly had no intention of wasting his time?

Too much power, not enough brains.

I'm sick and tired of being abused by "bosses" whose primary claim to any kind of authority boils down to starting the game with more money than me. As someone with no degree but lots of actual JOB EXPERIENCE and the ability to communicate effectively, I might as well walk into every interview with dog feces on my shoes for all the luck I'll have securing a position. And the process! All the online garbage previous posters have noted, PLUS background checks, PLUS drug tests, "personality tests", etc. And it doesn't matter how big the company is-small businessmen, in my experience, are largely petty tyrants who can't do the job themselves but are experts at nit-picking everything you do. Managers and supervisors at big companies never saw a buck they wouldn't pass. I've been passed over in favor of people who are "better" because they have a degree, but can't do the work, don't have any "hustle" and end up shopping online all day while I do their jobs-all for less than $10/hr.

Enough is Enough!

The control that employers have is too much. Its time for change because the control employers have is becoming abusive. I'm fed up with all the information they are now requiring just to apply. My husband has not been able to get a good job for a number of years now because of an accident he had years ago continues to follow him around and it wasn't even his fault!! I'm fed up with the fact that you are only paper and not a person. I'm fed up with manipulative and abusive managers who sit on the butts playing online games all day, drawing big salaries and the people under them get cut, laid-off etc. There is sexual harassment going on in my workplace and the women's complaints go nowhere. They are afraid to push it further for fear of losing their jobs. The GM knows its happening and he turns a deaf ear. Employers are becoming even more abusive and greedy. I'm fed up with the age discrimination in the workplace. Passing 50 doesn't equal stupid!! It is time for change.

Top Seasons Job Seeker Hate Employers

First and foremost is the fact that the pay stinks. Most of the jobs the pay scale is below what they are asking to do. Hiring Managers and employers should look at what they are willing to pay and ask themselves, would I work for that amount of money? If you are in a position that you are getting trained for the bottom of the scale is ok. Experienced workers should not be offer a job at 10.00 per hour it is like a slap in the face. There are many sites that employers could check to see what should be paid for certain qualifications. Myself I have 20 years experience as a bookkeeper and twelve years ago I took a data entry job at fourteen an hour so why would I even consider a job at ten an hour. Companies say they can't find qualified people but when the pay is below scale for the area you are looking in than good to the employers who are trying to hire. They just don't get it.

Employer's aren't fair

They don't like the fact that you are over 50. I'm currently 56, and I get it all the time.

Bad Management

I don't hate employers. I hate bad practices of management. After advertising in job portals they are in practice of recruiting peoples from their own social contacts. So why they are populating the vacancy ads in portals? It's really the monkey business.

From frustration to HATE

Just today I found that to view the job listings at Quest Diagnostics you have to create an account at some BS outfit called PeopleSoft. I just hate the name already. Of course I have heard of it but I don;t know what they do and I don't want them to have my information. I will keep repeating it. BOYCOTT EVERYTHING. I refuse to buy anything made by a large company. I mean everything except food that cannot be transported too far. Even if I ever manage to get another job I will not spend one dime. NOT ONE SUPERFLUEOUS PENNY on a large company EVER again. I HATE THEM ALL!!!!! There is not one good one in the bunch.

It All Needs to Change

I hate the application process, the background checks, the fact that employers have all the rights and employees have none and agree with many of the posters that it has become an employer's market. Employers treat employees badly and get away with it; they make things up to get rid of people stating poor performance when employees are poorly trained or had exemplary performance previously. It's becoming and US and THEM society-those that are perfect and those that have blemishes to their 'record'. There should access to this record. Employers can post lies about employees and prevent them from ever becoming employed again. What is going on the job market is not acceptable or fair. It is forcing people to be cutthroat and dishonest, unethical and backstabbing. Often just for minimum wage.

Contract Employment Paradoxes

I am a technical professional in the automotive industry, where virtually every position below the PhD level is now short-term contract indirect and there are 70 people unemployed for each posted job opening. My peeve? Headhunters from the various temporary-labor agencies who start with "I have a 6-to-12-month contract position which might interested you ... but first, I'd like to know why there are so many job changes and gaps on your resume.", entirely failing to notice the contradiction.

I AM qualified!

So many employers insult me by stating that I am now unqualified for the same job I have been doing for 16 years because I have a year left before finishing my degree. I may not have that very expensive piece of paper yet, but that doesn't mean that I am stupid or unqualified, especially when I have the achievements and references to back up my advanced skills.

Abuse

I have worked for many abusive people. My last boss kept bragging (while cutting my benefits and salary) that he 'kept' me employed. No mention of the fact that I did actual WORK for the money I was paid, I was supposed to THANK him for it too. I have had many screamers who just want to intimidate employees ; 'Mean Girl' managers who form cliques and stonewall you; illegal business practices, you name it. They truly treat employees like slaves these days. Slaves that should be grateful to BE slaves at that. The government has, for far too long, protected employers and companies. It's time for protection for employees. We are working in the 21st Century equivalent of sweatshops, with little or no recourse. Unions have become big business who don't care about their employees either, only their own personal gain. New laws need to be written so that we have a recourse when we are abused.

Too good to be hired

Disclaimer: I don't hate employers. I hate bad management practices. I'm a Software Developer and I don't like what's going in the industry. It seems that skills, experience and ability to do the job don't matter anymore. Management doesn't exist either. When I graduated from college (mid 2000s), all the descriptions seemed to be for experienced people. Now they all seem to be for college kids. You arrive for an interview and all they are concerned is to check how "smart" you are. Teams are arrogant, unprofessional and overworked.

Who can pick just one?

My issues: HR/Mgrs who want you to address them by name in cvr ltrs when no names are listed online. You're told you have "everything" they're looking for & they'll meet your salary, then they try to low ball you & "forget" they offered you more. When you're given an intv time, you show up on time/early and then the hiring mgr. decides to leave you sitting for over an hour. You provide good references, then they say well do you have others because these were all so positive (no way can you be a good employee). When the vacancy wants someone with varied exp., you prove that you are and are then asked why...like your dual degree didn't hint you had knowledge/exp. in both fields? When you decide after climbing your way up that you want to have a life again, make it clear in your cvr ltr that you are taking a step back, are told "you're perfect because we want someone with experience" but then in the intv you're suddenly over-qualified and the assumption is that you'll jump ship.

Older Workers

I go on interview after interview and someone else always gets the job it seem that most employers think you are stupid or that you cannot do the job just because you are in your middle 50's well SS won't let you retire at that age so you are stuck between a rock and a hard place I am a seasoned professional and jus because you don't put down dates for every job you worked doesn't mean you are not qualified. And the job being applied for should be the work stated and the full salary for that postion not 20 different positions for the same amount of money. employers treat employees like they have some kind of power over them I am your Boss and I know you need the job so I can say or treat you any old kind of way because you have no choice but to keep your job in these touch economic times No one should have to be treated like that to keep their jobs not only is it sorely unprofessional but it is very bad business practice We should all be team players and one the same page.
