The job I lost
I had a good hard woorking job for 10+ years delivering appliances when one of those appliances fell and crushed my arm rendering me with a permanent 25lbs weight limit and unable to perform the job duties. Therefore I was terminated immediately with a good luck smile and "go apply for Unemployment /We won't fight it" hand wave. So I did. That's when Indiana started being very unfair, in my eyes anyway.
What it's like being unemployed
My wife who had been a stay-at-home Mom found a decent average job. We lost our home and moved to a cheaper rental. Barely getting by, and expecting July 9 2012 to be the last week I get Unemployment. Then out of nowhere I get a letter on June 7, 2012 saying USDOL reversed their decision and my EUC had stopped. So basically I went from my uplink Unemployment page saying I had $3000 left to claim over next 5weeks to receiving a letter on a Wednesday stating that the money I had received the previous Monday was all I would get. That $3000 and 5more weeks- Poof! Gone! We used my checkfor kids food and wife's gas to work. Now it's Wednesday June 6 and she doesn't get paid untill June 15th. So basically since Indiana did not give me 2 week notice or any notice at all. Now my family will starve for the next 10days and possible my wife will lose her job because of no gas $. We always thought we'd have at least a week's warning. We were blindsided without a fighting chance. It's not fair to make people believe that they'll receive several more weeks. And instead? Get a letter 3days after you get paid saying good luck that was your last one. Not fair. Unjust!
Advice
- Always treat that dime in your pocket like it's the last money on earth. Becuse it could be the last you ever receive.
