Who the Hell Can Live on $61 a Week?

From Frank H.

The job I lost

I've been laid off since July 2011. Dealing with Florida unemployment is awful, to say the least. One customer service rep you talk to doesn't know an answer and will tell you whatever it is you want to hear. If you rely on what they said ie: "yes your payment will go through" or whatever, and it doesn't happen, and you call back, the next customer service rep will say, "Sir, that won't happen and you should not have been told that."

I received a letter a week ago saying I would remain on Tier III EUC, and the next day when I claimed my weeks, no check. Now I am told I am under review for a new year. WTH is going on. So frustrating !!!!

What it's like being unemployed

Having never been unemployed ever, this is an awful experience. I have put ot so many job resumes in my career fields of banking, fire, etc. and just nothing. I am about to lose my home, my bills are behind and no one at unemployment seems to care. I was on their EUC program and receiving $275 a week, now my case is under review for a new claim and they are telling me I might not get the $275 a week but now $61 a week. Who the hell can live on $61 a week with a mortgage, bills, gas for car, food, etc. It's laughable right up to the point of crying or wanting to jump off a bridge cause no one seems to give a damn.

Advice

  • Keep trying, I am trying to stay focused, but being jerked around my Florida's unemployment office is disheartening at best.
