The job I lost
I was a machine operator at a local factory here. I was working 12 hour days and 6 day weeks when the cutbacks started. I was almost at the job for three years. I was low man so I got let go.
I had NEVER needed to use unemployment before. I got let go in August of 2008 and was making 15 dollars an hour. I have lost count at how many applications I have put in, how many employers I have talked to, practically begged to give me a chance.
What it's like being unemployed
Being unemployed for such a very long time, has been one of the most humbling experiences of my entire life. I went from making 15 an hour and over 30 thousand dollars a year, to living on unemployment. I have one week of benefits left and after next week, my tier 4 benefits are over and I am still pounding the pavement trying to find work.
I have never ever been this worried or this scared in my life. Without some kind of benefits coming in, my families rent and utilities won't get paid and also my child support will start to build up, which is an arrestable offense. I am at the point where I no longer sleep good, I worry lots and I am still shocked that I have no options at all for a tier five. I've worked for over 25 years, always being fulltime, always paying into unemployment and now I feel like all is lost.
- Not sure what kind of advice I can give to others on being unemployed and about being out of unemployment benfits. Its been a very rough and humbling thing to have to go thru.
- Anyone that has a job, no matter how bad of one, PLEASE be glad you have it, hold onto it at ALL cost and always be grateful for the things your job does allow you and your family to have. You don't realize what you have, until its gone.
