The job I lost
I am and have been a Computer Desktop Support Specialists for the last 18 years. All of my jobs have been 3 month contract positions. The longest job I contracted for was 3 1/2 years. I truly enjoy the face to face contact this position offers. I have over 50 Desk top, Laptop and Printer Certifications and hold a Bachelors of Science Degree. I am truly a jack of all trades as I can do just about everything concerning computers with the exception of writing code.
I have learned how to interact with all types and personalities from the janitor to Doctors, Lawyers and CEO's.
What it's like being unemployed
!I am used to making 4 to 5 times as much working. I have looking hard for a job but am finding that I am "overqualified" whatever that is, OK I do know alot but that should only benefit my employer. OK I already know what your going to say, just take ANY JOB. ALRIGHT I'm not above picking fruit, pumping gas, working in a mini mart ect, as I have done these jobs before also. Here's the problem, I'm overqualified, too old (54), wrong race (I'm WHITE), am not bi lingual, I'm an AMERICAN and speak northern English, Southern English and British English and most Australian. I have worked since I was 13 (In the Orange Groves), paid my taxes.
I have found out first hand that illegal immigrants actually have more rights than I do in my own country and don't even have to try to speak english.
Loneliness set's in slowly at first then gets more aggressive.
Depression starts to set in and then starts staying long term.
Suicidal, well lately yes, you see I've always been a manic depressive. All that means is that when I'm up I'm REALLY UP and when I'm down it's just better for all if I just stay in bed rather than carry my thoughts out.
Advice
- Well actually I plan on goin hunting on January 20, 2011, thats a Thursday ya'll. Haven't found a Fat Cat License as of yet but hect I don't suppose that stopped anyone from hunting in the US before, just don't get caught. LOL.
- If you have a job GREAT. If you don't then join the club.
- If you don't then do what I am going to do. FAX your government, I am personally going to send 100 pages at a time to the White House, my Governor, LT Governor and Congressmen. Let them see how discouraged you are.
