How I was discriminated against
I was not hired at Kaiser Permenante in the city of Downey California because of my age. Out of 10 applicants only the youngest were hired. Our class volunteered for the hospital flu clinic, as this was done every year with a special contract with the school I attended for medical assistant clinical /medical coder /phlebotomist.
What it's like being an older or younger job seeker
As an older applicant the first question they fire at you is "aren't you thinking about retirement?" Being an older job seeker it is extremely difficult to find a job no matter how experienced you are.On the other hand, if you are a job seeker who went back to school to learn a new skill, you will be considered a job applicant with no experience and old.
Lessons Learned
- Don't let the world make you wanna crawl up and die. Keep advocating against age discrimination.
