How I was discriminated against
I am a 46 year old woman who has an extensive management resume. I have applied for jobs daily for the past year and a half. My unemployment was cut off unexpectedly 6 weeks ago.
I even applied for a position at a Cheddars that was opening near me, 2000 people applied for 200 positions. When I interviewed I let the women that I did not need to be a supervisor or manager, I was willing to bartend or waitress.
My last position I was a supervisor for a banquet department personally running some of the largest events in the city I am residing, and I can not even get a waitress job.
What it's like being an older or younger job seeker
I believe companies are hiring younger people because they can train them their way and pay them much less. The managers interviewing me are younger than I am. I believe I am not getting positions for this reason, who wants to hire someone who has much more experience then them? Seems no one does to me.
Lessons Learned
- Middle age business people are being overlooked for positions now due to being "over-qualified." we have become the minority.
