How I was discriminated against
I have 25 years of Food and Beverage Service sales experience calling on owners of restaurants, etc. I also have an MBA in Marketing. I am now 53 and get ZERO replies from the hundreds of sales openings I apply for in this industry. All applications ask for your age, which is illegal. The last Company I applied for (a National beer company wanting experience). My recent college grad (with no experience)son also applied. Guess who got the interview and who didn't even get a response ?? Hell yes there is age discrimination ALL OVER !!
What it's like being an older or younger job seeker
Terrible. I gave up after three years of no replies and work part time bagging groceries. Even ex-cons in the movie "Shawshank Redemption" got that job. Nobody wants to hire you. They think you're slower, will complain more, and retire within 10 years so why hire this guy ? Plus, most white men with no military background do not help companies achieve their "Quotas" !!!
Lessons Learned
- Don't get old!!! I know of someone who was also discriminated against (50 's white male) . He sued the Company at great cost and still lost the age discrimination case. You can't win.
