What Happened During The Interview?
I interviewed with two online retailers about the same time. I was proactive, gave good answers, had prepared extremely well. Yet, in both cases I had the very uneasy feeling that they knew more about me than they should or BELIEVED they would - never asked my side of the story.
How Did the Interview Turn Out?
Both declined me in very rude ways. I found out that both have dubious hiring practices AND illegitimately use customer a/c knowledge in interviews! (in my country it is even illegal). Not good.
I had stood my ground against intimidating and false gaming of other online customers and it appears they prefer yes-men over reasonably acting people but who are opinionated. One might argue whether being opinionated is good or bad - then again, those were my PRIVATE dealings, they had no rights to intrude into that privacy AND I have a right to stand up for myself and my rights in a friendly, professional manner. This is even more valid given they never asked my side of the story. I went over the situation a couple of times and could not find any wrongdoing on my side. I even handed the written notes of the discussion with the other customer to other people to receive additional feedback. No negatives there, just positively assertive.
Advice
- Chance are: a company or person that messes with your rights, boundaries and dignity in an abusive way once is likely to do it again. You would not want to work in such an environment anyhow. Get out sooner rather than later (challenge is always the trip reimbursement), inform others of such unprofessional behavior, look for keywords in your research that will give you a headstart on such issues well before any interview.
