I Could Tell He Liked Me Too Much!

What Happened During The Interview?

I had an interview as an office manager at a group home for boys. It sounded promising as I wanted to get experience in an office setting and as a manager. When I showed up at the interview though I realized it wasn't what I was expecting. Then a lot of awkwardness followed and I wasn't sure what to do but sat there and dealt with it anyway.

How Did the Interview Turn Out?

The interview was to take place at the group home. Outside there was a game room/house where the interview was held. It was next to a pool table and a chess board on a couch. I thought it might be more relaxing but I was very wrong. About an HOUR into the interview another man kept coming in asking if he was ready to leave. I could tell that the man was spending too much time with me but I didn't think much of it. I figured he liked me. Later though when he started talking about inappropriate things I realized he liked me too much.

He warned me that some of the boys had very unusual fetishes and some were "offenders" but that they wouldn't really bother me throughout the day. I tried to look beyond that and was hoping he was just trying to see if I would get a little scared with the boys. But then he told me about some sexual things I would have to be typing up in pamphlets for the boys. Ex: What an appropriate desire might be vs. "hard core" things that shouldn't be allowed.

I can't even explain in detail what happened without offending readers. It was really awkward but I really needed a job so I just sat there and politely responded. About an hour and a half in he gave me a tour of the house and the office and made it sound as if I got the job. I didn't, and luckily they gave the job to a man.

Advice

  • Just get up and leave. Looking back, in an uncomfortable situation like this one I think it's better to just cut your losses, pack up, and leave. Who knows how this could have turned out otherwise.
