Why I Was Fired
I was fired for calling out another employee for cheating on his wife (also an employee and my friend). I was advised by my GM to address the cheating employee first before telling his wife. When I approached him to ask him if we could talk he threatened to sue me and I snapped and yelled at him. I was let go over the phone the next morning.
What Being Fired Has Been Like
It was devastating. I loved my job and wanted to keep it. I felt like my employers didn't have my back. They told me they understood why I did it, they understood how hard it was on me and it wasn't my fault. They talked me off the ledge and told me I was a good person to my face and then fired me over the phone the next day in a 30 second phone call.
Advice
- Separate your work life and your real life. Even if you think you are doing the right thing, being a good person doesn't pay the bills.
