Why I Was Fired
I was fired in effect. I was told my contract would not be renewed. I found the job very difficult and I felt I was blamed for something I could not have known at the time. My boss had already made up her mind before she spoke to me and I did not really get to give my side of the story.
What Being Fired Has Been Like
I regretted telling another person about it. She told someone else and I noticed that people treated me differently and some stopped talking to me.
It is shocking how some people change towards you once they know you are on your way out. Some people avoid you, others want to know what happened and understandably, you don't always want to talk about it. Sometimes they hug you etc when you just want them to go away. It is a very isolating situation, especially if you do not have a job to go to.
If you have been fired, you lose the status you had, also you may feel resentful. If there are any misunderstandings, you are in a majority of one.
Advice
- I would advise anyone who has to work out their notice to negotiate leaving as early as possible and not to tell anyone you have been fired.
- In my case, I told the office manager, who sorts out expenses. In retrospect I could have left and sent the receipts in later. She told other people and that was when I would come in each day and not want to be there at all.
- My last day was awkward and I just wanted to be left alone, even though most people were kind.
