Why I Was Fired
On my last day of work, the president threatened me that if she fires me, then they don't have to pay me 4 weeks of termination pay.
One week later, I received a lay-off letter with 2 weeks of notice. I informed them that I accept the offer.
I had gone to work that morning, only to be informed by manager that I was already fired. I phoned the president, she said "I will never lay you off."
Four days letter, I received the letter of dismissal. The first reason I was dismissed is that I didn't come back to work.
What Being Fired Has Been Like
Before the last day of my work, I had never disputed with the president. I had never been fired before. It is my first time facing things like this. I couldn't sleep well. I felt hurt. Even now, I cannot comprehend why the company had treated their employee who had worked loyally for the company for almost five years, as the president did me.
Advice
- Find legal advice, and go to a court to sue the company right away. Employment Standards can't do anything about the wrongful dismissal.
- Be happy. Life is too short to be upset.
