Why I Was Fired
Not following safety procedure
What Being Fired Has Been Like
Being fired was very hurtful.
I worked for a big pet store company as a Professional Dog Bather for 2 years. In this company before you can even touch a dog you have to pass a Salon Safety Certification with 100%. As I was studying for this test I read in the manual that the dogs were not to be attached to the kennels or tubs. I took my test and got 100% the first time and started my journey of bathing my first dog. When I started I noticed that there was nowhere to attach the dogs except for the tubs and kennels. I confronted my coworkers and they said "Oh we just attach them to the ring on the tubs and the kennel doors. I still wasn't sure so I asked my manager and she said the same thing. Two years go by and we were attaching the dogs to kennels and tubs with no problem. One day a Doberman with really bad skin comes in for a nail trim. I take her to the back and start trimming her nails and somehow she ended up cutting her leg. We followed procedure and took her to the vet and got her fixed up and let the owner know (who was more worried that the dog had hurt me.) A week later I come to work go to clock in and my card is not there. One of the managers comes in and says we need to talk. She then tells me that they decided to terminate me do to safety procedure not being followed. When I tried to ask her a few questions she said "I have no clue. They just told me to tell you." She then told me to come back the next day and ask the store manager. I did and got the same response from her. "I don't know" to every question I had. As my last paycheck the gave me a Star card which costs $1.75 to use at any ATM and is not accepted in most places. To this day I still have not been able to use all my paycheck, due to the limitations and rules they have. This was one of the questions I asked both managers and got an "I don't know." from. For the two years I worked for this company I put everything into my work. I loved this place, the people I worked with, and my clients. I even liked dealing with grumpy and rude customers because they couldn't help but smile after I helped them. What I got for all of this in return was an "Oh we are sorry but you aren't that important to us so we are just going to terminate you." In my two years of working there I had seen many worse injuries happen do to carelessness or rushing and nothing happened to those people except a smack on the hand and "Don't do it again" I learned not to give 150% because they won't appreciate it anyway.
- Follow the rules no matter what others say. and if they have a problem with it dont be afraid to go to higher managment to get them enforced.
- Don't be afraid to seek help if you think you had an illegal termination.
