JobTabs Job Search & Resume

My Review

JobTabs Job Search & Resume manages multiple resumes, contacts, search agents, feeds, and jobs.

PROS

Seamless integration with MS Word who prefer that word processor. If you don't have MS Word, JobTabs has its own Word compatible processor that saves to a wide variety of formats such as doc, pdf, html, rtf and text. With its long list of categorized action verbs, it is supremely optimized for writing resumes.

Optionally, JobTabs automatically backdates your resume so that the recipient won't be led to believe that you just typed it up that morning - which you very well may have done. ;-)

Also applies a Standard Resume Name to every resume you send out. No more cryptic file names to distinguish one resume from the other. If your name is Joe Smith, your resume will always be sent as jsmith.doc instead of jsmith_proj_manager.doc, jsmith_supervisor.doc, etc. Very liberating! Gives the hiring manager the impression that you only have one resume instead of a bunch of different customized resumes. This is good because it makes you look more focused and dedicated to the kind of job you are applying to.

Customizable search agents. Naturally, most job sites will only let you apply a search agent to their own site. JobTabs can create a search agent from any site that has a search page. This is far more flexible than any job search board.

Saves jobs from the internet. You will never be at a loss for detail if you capture every nuance of the web page. Other tools will just let you download a text version of the RSS feed or just the link to the job itself. What happens when they close the job? With JobTabs, you save the entire job posting permanently.

Manage every detail of every contact right down to each phone conversation. Email is integrated into JobTabs so you don't have to use different applications to carry out the singular function of finding a job. Best of all if you use the built-in cross reference feature, every note that applies to any of the other players in your job search is automatically shared with them.

Finally, it is a desktop application with Web 2.0 facilities. It is mine to keep forever. Too many online job tools are only around while they are profitable. If they go under, then what?

Would I recommend this to a friend? Absolutely!

CONS

It is not free, but at a one time cost of only $49.95 it costs much less than many of the "freemium" alternatives. :-)
