I was hired to teach at Real Individualized Education in Jining, Shandong province for the months of July and August of 2011. Once I got there, everything this training centre promised me was not available. Then they put me in a hotel for the first night, and in the following day the recruiter went with me to visit a room in the same building where he lives (a place that is not really for foreign teachers). I declined the room and they offered me a place in another city, which was not part of our deal. As flexible as I am and because I was already there for the job, I decided to go to the other city in order to check that place out. I found out that I had to share the house with another guy by taking a room and there was no air-conditioning and in the back of that building there was a construction sight, where Chinese workers work 24/7 and very loud. Let alone the lack of a window screen and the effects of Chinese mosquitos. I totally refused to work under those terms, they put me again in another small hotel room for 2 nights although I would admit that that room was nice and clean even small. I agreed with them to stay in that hotel room and work in that city for those 2 months, but they refused because the boss said it was too much money.
They gave me no choice, either that miserable room where the recruiter live or no job. I accepted at the end to live in that room where nothing from what they promised be was handy: no fridge, no laundry machine, just air-conditioning and TV. In addition the room was very dirty, the washroom was filthy... I had to fight with them to send somebody from their school to clean it and I did clean after them again... After all of this fight, when I asked the center to pay me at the end of the month, they categorically refused and said in the 15th of the next month, which means if I work till the end of August as in the contract, they can still steal my money if August if they want because I have to go back to where I live and wait for them to pay me on the 15th of September. After much thinking and many other things that I noticed and others that happened in the center, I decided to leave without notice, knowing that they wanted me to advertise for them among other things for a wage that is not acceptable (6000 RMB). Although the agreement says that if I decide to leave before the end of the contract, they will only pay me for the total amount of hours that I taught at their center. They didn't even pay me for my work.
