There are many different formats and types of resumes to use, and which you choose can depend on a number of factors. How to Write a Resume Profile

If you're sold on the idea of incorporating this section, the next step is to write an effective resume profile. Follow these suggestions: 

  • Keep it short. Your profile should be several sentences to a short paragraph long. You don't need to list every certification or paraphrase all your experience. You have the rest of your resume to list your previous employment and education.
  • Put it up top. Place you summary at the top of your resume, so that hiring managers and interviewers will read it first. 
  • Personalize it for the job at hand. Tailor the profile section of your resume to the requirements of the position you're applying for. Show the reasons that you should stand apart from the rest of the applicants as the most interesting and qualified candidate. 
  • Make sure it's readable. Often, the language used in resumes is quite formal. That's appropriate for the document. Still, resist the urge to break out the thesaurus. Write clearly and directly, so that hiring managers can understand what you're trying to convey. 
  • Consider formatting. As well as your word choice, keep your formatting decisions in mind. The font size and style should be legible. Bullet points can sometimes be a helpful way to make it easy for readers to absorb text. 
  • Sell yourself. Remember, the primary reason to include this section is to show employers that you're a strong candidate. Highlight your relevant skills and objectives. If possible, quantify them — it's impressive to use numbers.
