Privacy Act - The Privacy Act of 1974

By , About.com Guide

Definition: The Privacy Act of 1974 requires that public-sector employees be given access to any and all information in their files. Employees have the right not only to view this information, but review and correct any false data.

Although the Act does not cover private-sector employees, most employers let individuals access their files in order to create a trusting relationship between employer and employee.
