Veteran Discrimination

By , About.com Guide

Definition: The Vietnam Era Veterans' Readjustment Assistance Act of 1974 (VEVRAA) contains affirmative action provisions that forbid job discrimination.

Federal contractors and subcontractors must take affirmative action to employ qualified special disabled veterans, recently separated veterans, veterans who served on active duty in a war campaign or expedition for which a campaign badge has been authorized, and Vietnam era veterans. VEVRAA is enforced by the Veterans’ Employment and Training Service (VETS).

Examples:
Not hiring a worker because he or she is disabled due to military service is considered veteran discrimination.
