Definition: Job shadowing involves spending time with a mentor to explore career options and to see how the skills you have learned in school relate to work. Job shadowing is designed to provide information on career options and to give the person shadowing insight in to what the career field the mentor is in is like.
Job shadowing can be done as part of a formal program organized by a high school or university or can be scheduled informally. A job shadow experience can be as brief as a few hours or a day, or may be as long as week or more.
