Elevator SpeechCopyright Diane Diederich
Definition: An elevator speech (also called an elevator pitch) is a quick synopsis of your background. Your elevator speech should be brief - no longer than 30 to 60 seconds - the time it takes to ride a elevator, hence the name.

If you're job searching, you can use you elevator pitch at job fairs and networking programs, and online in your LinkedIn summary or Twitter bio, for example.

Your elevator pitch should explain who are and what qualifications and skills you have. If you have a business card, offer it at the end of the conversation as a way to continue the dialogue.
