How to Search for Local Jobs

When you are seeking a job in a specific geographic area, the job search engines are an excellent source of local job listings. You will be able to search by type of position and city, state, zip code and/or a radius of a zip code. Here's how to search for local jobs on the top job search engines.

Search for Local jobs on Indeed.com:

  • Search by city, state or zip code on the Indeed.com website.
  • Or, click on Advanced Job Search or go directly to Indeed.com's Advanced Job Search page.
  • Scroll down to Where and When.
  • Select Location: only in or within 5, 10, 15, 25, 50, or 100 miles of a city, state, or zip code.
  • Add Keywords if you are searching for a particular type of job.
  • Click Find Jobs.

Search for Local Jobs on LinkUp.com:

  • Search by keyword and city or zip code on the LinkUp.com website.
  • Or, click on Advanced or go directly to LinkUp.com's Advanced page.
  • Select Location: only in or within 10, 15, 25, 50, or 75 miles of a city, state, or zip code. Select job tags if you are interested in a specific type of position.
  • Click Search Jobs.

Search for Local Jobs on SimplyHired.com:

  • Search by city, state or zip code on the SimplyHired.com website.
  • Click on Part Time or visit SimplyHired.com's Part Time Jobs page.
  • Or, click on a Job Category, then search by keyword and location: city, state or zip.
  • Click on "More" below each job posting to find connections at companies, research salaries, map the location of the job, and locate similar jobs in the same area.

Search for Jobs on Craigslist

Craigslist is another good source of local job listings. To search for local jobs on Craigslist, select your location, then review the listings in the categories under Jobs.
