Definition: A job application is an application for employment used by companies to hire employees.

A job application can be completed in several ways. There are paper job applications forms that you fill out if you apply in person for a position. There are also online job applications, typically completed at a company web site or at a hiring kiosk in a store or business.

Some employers accept job applications via email, fax, or mail. In those cases your job application consists of a resume and cover letter.
