Job Interview Answer: Working Independently or In Groups?

By , About.com Guide

When you are applying for an entry level position a typical job interview question is "Did you prefer working independently or in groups on school assignments/projects?"

Here are sample interview answers which you can edit to fit your personal experiences and background:

  • I work comfortably as part of a group and I also work well independently. For most projects or assignments, having multiple brains working toward the same final product can only be beneficial. I only had one or two assignments that were undoubtedly created to do individually.
  • I am a team player. I know that being cooperative, open minded, and focused are important aspects to being a successful team member. I feel more motivated when I work with a group.
  • I prefer to work independently or with a single partner. In my opinion, there are too many factors that could be missed when people work in groups of three or more. If I am going to be accountable for the final result of a project or assignment, I want be sure it's done well and to my standards.
