You can also use TalentShield as a way to perform your own background check and make sure there aren't any red flags that would cause a company to question your candidacy.
TalentShield Verification
TalentShield verifies the following information from your resume:
- Identity: First Name and Last Name
- Education History: Institution, Education Level, Degree, Attendance Dates
- Employment History: Employer, Job Title, Dates Employed
- Certifications: Certification Name, ID Number, State, Status
TalentShield contacts the companies and schools that the user lists on his or her resume to verify employment and education, as well as checking to make sure the user's legal name and social security number are a match. The turnaround time is generally 1 - 3 business days, although this depends on the timeliness of the educational institutions and employment organizations contacted.
TalentShield Reports
Users will be able to review the results of the verification on their TalentShield page. On the left panel of any page on TalentShield, the credential categories are listed along with their respective statuses (Verified, Discrepancy, Unable to Verify, Failed to Verify, In Progress, or Available for Verification).
If there's a discrepancy, the different information received from the organization is listed next to the applicant's submitted information on the "My TalentShield" page. The user has the choice to either "Adopt" the information returned by the organization or "Dispute." If the claim is disputed, a form appears and a user can voice his or her reason, which TalentShield will use to further investigate the discrepancy.
TalentShield Packages and Pricing
The number of verifiable credentials varies according to the plan a user pays for. All levels include identity verification as well as the TalentShield Seal and a Universal profile viewable by anyone with the appropriate link (can be made private). TalentShield packages include:
- Entry level jobs including either education or employment verification ($14.95).
- Mid-level positions including both one education and one employment credential verified ($29.95).
- Management positions including one education and three employment verifications ($49.95).
The fees for TalentShield are based on the level of plan you choose. Do keep in mind when using a service like this that it's important to decide if the service is worth the expense, if you need your resume verified, and whether employers will be interested in a verified resume or if they have their own background check system in place.
How to Sign Up
To get started on TalentShield, you first select a package, then complete a profile which includes name, email address, work history, education history and professional credentials.
Sharing Your Credentials
The "My Sharing Tools" page gives users an easy way to share their verified credentials with potential employers. This is the page where users can choose to make their profile page, where their verified credentials are visible, public or private. Each user gets a customized profile page URL, which can be linked from your profile on networking sites like LinkedIn, a blog, a website, or to a resume document.
Each user also receives a mobile-device friendly barcode image, leading back to the user's profile. Users can share their profile via email directly from this page as well, and there is a link at the bottom of this page to sign up with Talent Exchange, a related job-searching website with over 4,000 recruiters.
