Reasons to Quit a Job

Before you quit a job, you should be very sure that you want to quit. Keep in mind that this is still a tough job market for many job seekers. Hating your job might not be a good enough reason to quit unless you have another job lined up.

That said, there are legitimate reasons to quit a job. There are also circumstances beyond your control where quitting may be the only viable option.

Sometimes, even if the work environment is difficult, it can be strategic to give another reason for quitting other than you hate working at the company. Being polite about quitting can help you move on without burning any bridges.

Not sure how to quit? The formal way to resign is to write a resignation letter. However, depending on circumstances, you may need to quit over the phone or to quit via email.

However you decide to quit your job and whatever reason you use to quit your job, manners do matter and it's important to quit with class and to leave on good terms, if you can. Here's how to tell your boss that you're quitting.
