Tips for Contacting Congress to Renew Unemployment

By January 5, 2014

Follow me on:

I've been asked about the best way to contact Congress to urge them to renew federal extended unemployment benefits which expired at the end of the year. So, I've compiled the tips I've received for letting your representatives know that renewing unemployment is important to you.

Contact Your Representatives
The AFL-CIO has a directory of elected officials. Enter your zip code to find links to your representatives' websites, Facebook and Twitter pages.

Make Phone Calls. Call both the Washington, DC and the local/home office of your representatives.

Post on Facebook. Post your concerns about unemployment running out on their Facebook page. They don't all accept posts, but some do. For example, here's Majority Leader Eric Cantor's Facebook page.

Use Twitter. Encourage your representatives to not let unemployment expire. Also retweet as many unemployment related posts as you can. Search for unemployment, #unemployment or #renewui to find them. You can also use Unite Blue to easily tweet Congress.

Send Email. You'll be able to send an email message directly from most representative's websites.

Call Congressional Leaders
Even though the House has recessed you should be able to at least leave a message. The National Employment Law Project (NELP) recommends calling House Republican leaders: Speaker John Boehner, Majority Leader Eric Cantor, Ways and Means Chairman Rep. Dave Camp and Budget Chairman Rep. Paul Ryan. Call toll-free 1-888-245-0215 and tell them not to shut down federal unemployment insurance.

NELP also suggests calling Senator Harry Reid (D-NV), the majority leader, and Senators Dick Durbin (D-IL), Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Max Baucus (D-MT):
Call toll-free 888-245-0215 (1-888-245-0215 for service requiring a "1"). Ask for the office of each of those Senate Democratic leaders and tell them: "You must act to stop the shut down of federal unemployment insurance. Renew federal UI - the EUC program - for 2014 without delay! If the House's failure to act causes federal benefits to lapse, you must act to restore them quickly and renew federal unemployment insurance for 2014. Thank you."

More Suggestions

  • Contact the White House - Send an email message to the White House or call.
  • AFL-CIO - Sign a petition, email your friends and ask them to support unemployment, and share on Facebook.
  • Share Your Story - Your stories are needed for the NELP campaign to renew federal EUC benefits.

Get Help
What can you do if your unemployment checks have run out, are about to run out, or if you can't get by on unemployment benefits, which typically aren't enough to live on? Here's information on assistance available for unemployed workers.

Stay Up-To-Date
I will post updates here as soon as there is news on what will be happening with unemployment in 2014. Also, follow me on Twitter, add me to your Google+ Circles and like About Job Search on Facebook for more news and information.

It’s been said by people I know who do lobbying that letters (real letters, not e-mail) and phone calls are the most effective tools … the ones legislators pay most attention to. Cantor’s FB page “ate” my post … it never showed up.

(2) jan says:

Whichever politians are not pushing for extending unemployment benefits, there has to be not one in their family or their friends that need to have these benefits. If they knew someone, things might be different. They have jobs and don’t have to worry about their family. They are lucky, but not everyone is. I have worked since I was a teenager and now I am 64 and never stopped working. Age makes a huge difference when looking for employment. Experience doesn’t count, age does.

I agree with Jan!! People have to basically be in our shoes to understand!
I have a 2 year Associates of Science and cannot find a job! I think this “wonderful” healthcare has not helped either with finding a job. So if the Congress does read this please think of all of us that cant find a job and are trying very hard. I have worked for over 20 years and this economy sucks!! If there is money to take all these luxury trip out of the country then why can’t they help us? I am in considered in the middle class due to the fact I am punished for having a good life before the loss of a job. What help is really out there? I have been through everything I am told to do.
Thanks for hearing me out and GOD Bless America and I hope you all have a Merry Christmas

i worked for the federal govt for 14 years and got fired due to a lying supervisor that had it in for me. i sign up for several temp agencies and landed a job with a company named Finiti on june 11th of last year. On July 5th 2013 i was laid off of my job at finiti due to the economy. i am collecting uemployment which is scheduled to run out Jan. 4th will be my last check. I am trusting in the all mighty god that he would work behind the scenes in our favor. This battle is not mines. I know God has the final say. In jesus name. Amen

We need to push to have these benefits until this economy gets better

(9) Ed says:

The fact that these fools ALWAYS wait until something is almost expired, or past expiration, (UNEMPLOYMENT) to do something tells me it’s a complete waste of time contacting them! They NEVER learn! It also amazes me that they can cut unemployment extensions over money but always seem to have enough cash to send to terrorist nations, or other nations, without crying about spending. Politicians have pet projects that keep getting passed with no crying about spending. Politicians are the parasites of the world, lower than Lwyers and Used Car Salesman combined

(10) Alison Doyle, About.com Job Search Expert says:

Request from NELP for phone calls this week:

Your phone calls to Senators and especially Senate leaders are urgently needed and they are needed right now! Please take a moment now to pick up the phone. First, calls are urgently needed to these Senate Democratic leaders:

Senator Harry Reid (D-NV), the majority leader; and Senators Dick Durbin (D-IL), Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Max Baucus (D-MT) need to hear from workers and advocates across the country.

Call toll-free 888-245-0215 (1-888-245-0215 for service requiring a “1″). Please make these four important calls and ask for the office of each of those Senate Democratic leaders — and give them a very simple message:

Tell them: “You must act to stop the shut down of federal unemployment insurance. Renew federal UI ? the EUC program ? for 2014 without delay! If the House’s failure to act causes federal benefits to lapse, you must act to restore them quickly and renew federal unemployment insurance for 2014. Thank you.”

(11) Kris says:

I agree with Rachael, I’m a single Mother, lost my hospital job in The Spring and have been unable to find work. Also, I’m 49 years old, healthy, want a job, but it’s more difficult when you’re older. I have never been unemployed before this, 30+ years of steady work, but now, we are desperate! We will lose our home, pets, everything. My son is 13, do not know where he’ll go to school if we lose our house! This is critical, we need the extention passed now! People want to work, just need more time in this difficult economy to find jobs. We all need to pray & keep the faith that this extention will get put thru.

(12) Jerry says:

I’m in the same boat as Janice above, I have worked nonstop since I was 16, I’m now 61 and have been unemployed for 8 months due to a nationwide 1500 person layoff.

The latest numbers I have seen, said that people in our age group average in excess of 1 year of unemployment. Losing these benefits will be another serious blow for my family and me and could be very rough to overcome.

Please make some calls, write some letters, send emails, to the geniuses that hold our futures in their hands, anything is better than just sitting there and doing nothing!

(14) ROBERT PATTEN says:

Its so important that EVERYONE contact the congress as Alison mentions above, also you should try to get as many people as you know, friends, family, etc…..to contact also…..It’s Vital…..Call the House Reps and Senators. Senators are STILL in session this week. Very important. You can see in the news that more states are asking for the extension now also , so I recommend contacting your Governors office in your State, and recommend they make a Statement about extending EUC in the news also ……I personally have been contacting the different new’s agencys in my area to try to get the word out. The New’s agencys are looking for stories of us that will be affected to broadcast during the season, to pull on the viewers heart strings and also let the viewers see we are not Lazy….but just caught up on the still bad economy…

(15) Tracey says:

All the mailboxes for the congressmen and senators are full. I’ve been leaving emails everyday…but have gotten no response. These guys are playing with my life and I’m sick of it.

December 17, 2013 at 1:11 pm
(16) Deb says:

It would be helpful if the unemployment website would tell people who to contact. They do not even tell people anything is going on except that your benefits will stop. The letter people get in the mail says only that benefits will stop. It does not tell people that it is up to polititians to decide their fate.

(20) Bill says:

I did a rough count the other day and I have applied for 260+ jobs since 9/15, unemployed since 4/17. I have applied online and I have gone downtown, business to business, asking if they are hiring. I am over-qualified for the crummy jobs and what I get from online applications is that they are getting 100 applicants for every position. I don’t what more I can do.

December 19, 2013 at 3:04 am
(21) Hummingbird42 says:

This is outrageous! I have been unemployed since January 2013 and have spent 4 days / 5 hours looking for a job each week. Employers look at me and give the no go sign. Take a hike!! I am no slacker and employers are getting tired of hearing from me!

Now that EUC has not been approved, there will be no money coming in to pay the mortgage and bills. What the heck is Congress thinking? Letting the unemployed who want to work and can’t get jobs suffer. I have been dipping into my 401k early to cover mortgage and medical bills. Don’t know how this will all pan out but god help us!

Your vote from me is in jeopardy…

December 19, 2013 at 5:04 pm
(23) Die Hard Republican says:

I will NEVER vote for ANY Republican again if EUC is not renewed. This is an outrage!!! I have worked for 30+ years and this is the first time I have ever collected unemployment and because the economy is improving (compared to what???) I am not eligible for add’l UI? Then could I please have the money I paid into they system for the past 30 years???

December 19, 2013 at 6:00 pm
(24) Stressed says:

I have worked since I was 13yrs old the last company I worked for i was there 17yrs and was laid off due to a lack of work. I have been looking for work since I was let go 6 months ago and I returned back to school to finish my bachelors degree. I am scared that they will not give a extension on the unemployment if they dont its going to increase the crime rates, and the stress on the people. I am worried about my family also i have 5 kids also. please please I hope some one is watching out for the people.

December 19, 2013 at 8:27 pm
(25) Jann says:

Eric Cantor removed both of my comments about extending unemployment benefits on his Facebook page. I guess if he doesn’t want to hear it, he doesn’t have too. Very bad public relations.

December 20, 2013 at 12:52 pm
(26) John says:

I believe what Jann said is 100% correct. I am in the same postion as she is. I have worked for the last 50 years and never collected unemployment until August. My benefits will run out in February. I have been actively looking for employment but I do believe that age and the economy has a negative affect on my job hunt. Imay also need the extension.

December 20, 2013 at 3:19 pm
(27) Shirley says:

Employed for 35 years when they closed the doors. I worked my way up from the bottom. Now at 56 im not as healthy or as quick or as able to work as I was at 20 but I am smarter and more committed then ever. My son at age 23 recieved UCB for all most 21/2 years after working only 2 years are you kidding me that after 6 months I am done!! Awake up call for ALL the politicians is to VOTE them ALL out Everyone of them show them who they work for and in 4 years vote them all out DONT let this happen again we the people have given them way to much power over us VOTE THEM ALL OUT EVERYONE OF THEM OUT

December 20, 2013 at 6:13 pm
(28) Marie says:

I agree people don’t know what other people go through to find a job and it’s hard. People say …. Oh apply in retail you can get in there and they say a job is a job . Well that is true but people have the right to get something better then retail . So it would be nice to be able to get an extension in 2014.

December 20, 2013 at 7:34 pm
(29) Amc says:

This is crazy. I am 34 have been working since I was 16. This. Is the first time I have been on unemployment. It’s not my fault the company I worked for closed its doors. Now my children and I are all in jeapordy of being hungry and homeless.

December 20, 2013 at 7:42 pm
(30) Lisa Strickland says:

Fact: There are 112 million workers in this country who are unemployed, underemployed, or who have simply given up hope of ever finding a job.

That’s 35% of the American population!

Midlife workers face some of the steepest odds of any job seekers in this economy. Why? Age bias has a lot to do with it. It’s no secret that workers over age 45 aren’t considered a target group for employment.

Further, midlife workers who lost their jobs as a result of corporate downsizing are often perceived as being second rate, or somehow at fault for being unemployed.

The ugly truth is that midlife workers have been delivered a double blow. Not only have they lost their jobs—they’ve lost their employability.

Millions of lives are falling apart because experienced professionals can’t get hired.

Employers have been slow to recognize the value in hiring midlife workers, despite numerous studies showing that older workers generally have superior interpersonal skills, less absenteeism and a lower turnover rate than their younger counterparts.

Tackling the unemployment crisis requires a multi-faceted, bold approach—and it starts with employers.

Companies need to start using their heads when hiring. Stop looking for the perfect match. Work toward streamlining the hiring process. Stop overlooking an entire generation and start celebrating the unique skills and experience midlife workers bring to the job. It’s time to put the “human” back into Human Resources—and get people back to work.

(31) mrzqtorres says:

I am pretty sure that these politicians do not care.. they can wake up and go to a job every morning.. they will also get paid even if their heads never leave their pillows.. I have been looking for work aggressively since May, so much so that I ended up in the hospital. I have a husband and 3 children who need me.. and i need to work..i have tried everything.. Yes, minimum wage is an issue, but these are people who have been blessed enough to HAVE a job.. it comes off as a little unappreciative of what they do have… no one wants to continue to get passed on by these employers who pick and choose who they want, no matter how the economy is doing. Just like employer get tax cuts if they hire someone on welfare, why not introduce the same for long term unemployed people? Then you have employers who have crazy requirements for their hiring process! I have seen employers want 5-7 years experience for a receptionist! !! Really?? How can one gain experience if no one wants to hire them? Also, don’t ALL JOBS TRAIN YOU ON THEIR PROCESS AND PROCEDURES??????
Congress needs to stop this mess.. they are having a great Christmas this week, those of us who look at the end of EUC may not be able to say the same..

Whoo!! I had a lot to get off my chest…

-still unemployed and still looking

(35) Tracey says:

I applied for a clerical position in KY yesterday and a pop up window appeared stating that the company expects to have over 500 applicants for this one position. They had a list of additional question including an essay question where I was to detail the reasons that I should be considered for an interview.

This was an entry level job people!

I would like to see the raw data of the job numbers the Republicans are posting. Where do these numbers come from? How do they calculate the number of unemployed? Are they only counting the people who are on unemployment…because that’s not even half of the unemployed in my state.

The ONLY way to get unemployment is to lose your Jon through NO FAULT OF YOUR OWN. We didn’t do anything wrong and still lost our jobs. And we are being berated and lazy slobs everyday by our elected Republicans.

There is no way in Hell that I will ever vote for another one of you! I want all Republic politicians to become unemployed and homeless if possible. If I have the means to help you at that time, I will make sure to take a good long vacation before I finally decide to give you the aid or not. Because of course my vacation is much more important than food, shelter and security.

(36) Jeff says:

Just called Steve Israel’s office, got some little kid. He said he would leave a message for Steve. He is on vacation until January.

I asked him when EUC expires, he said 12/28. I said, so that would be after 12/28.
Next question, Is Steve impacted by ending EUC.

Answer, “Well, Mr. Israel is not on unemployment”.

“So he isn’t affected”, I said.

Lobbying+no political accountability= America

Didn’t Americans take down the British Government for abusing financial means. Revolutionary War Part II seems inevitable.

(39) Maria says:

I agree with all the comments submitted. I have worked nonstop since I was seventeen. I had to quit school to help support my family. I am now 39,was a manager for almost 8 years and was fired with 13 other managers due to economy reasons. I see many job postings and I have applied for every single one and my experience seems worthless to employers since I still can’t find a job. I still have a family to support and even though I do have faith in God, I still worry about my family’s well being, as I’m sure almost everyone else is. This country is supposed to be the best one in supporting it’s people but sometimes it doesn’t seem like it and this new health insurance issue is not helping either. It will be cheaper for me to pay the penalty than the insurance but I won’t even be able to pa that. Crazy world we live in.

December 26, 2013 at 12:54 am
(40) Amiey says:

I just wanted to say that this situation is devastating and unfair. I am worried because my father has been unemployed since the beginning of June 2013 and has tried looking for jobs but no luck. That check that he gets every two weeks is a tremendous help for a family of four. It’s not easy going out there expecting to get hired right on the spot, which is something the government does not see. My mother cleans houses so she is basically bringing the bread home and is helping out with the expenses, she does not make enough to support everyone. As for my brother and I we both have jobs and we only work less that 25 hours a week due to school and most of are checks go towards school, gas money and other expenses. I want the congress to know that a lot of families will be greatly affected by this if they take away our benefits. My family and I have been blessed enough to at least survive on the check my father receives and the amount of money my mom makes. But if they take it away we will encounter a difficult time where my brother may need to take off a semester of school to get more hours at work to help my father and the family. Putting school on hold is ridiculous because we are trying to make a career where eventually we will make a living out of something to be financially stable, but instead we will have to leave it behind since the unemployed benefits will be taken away by the end of this year. It’s funny how the government tries to take it out on the unemployed people to reduce the amount they are giving out each month when really it is a great source of help for us. They really should be reducing their spending on other things like the military spending which is where they spend billions and trillions of dollars on per year!!! The only thing we can do now is pray to God and leave it all in his hands. Pray and have faith that this country and economy can be stable again . I pray to God that they give us an extension. Keep praying.

(41) Patricia Gamber says:

what do other countries do when their government fails them. When they destroy the middle class and have only the millions of poor and the few super rich? Think about it congress. We hired you. We can fire you. No one I know is willing to vote republican after the fiasco of recent months. And the few that don’t know any better I’m more than willing to educate. My husband cannot find a job. I’m not even talking about a good job. Just a job. And how much are we paying you to sit on your *$$es and ruin our lives. More and more people are getting fed up with you and the games you play with other peoples lives. When you back people into a corner and they get desperate horrible things happen. How many people are you cornering this time?

(42) adam says:

how can you get approved for euc like i was in november and then it ends after 2 filings. every job in my area has at leaset 25 applicants. there arent jobs for all of us dont promise something that is then gonna end, thanx alot congress for getting this done before you left for holiday break, now we gotta play a waiting game with a possible bill on the 6th so whats that mean how lkong will it be debated? will ted cruz read green eggs an ham again to slow it down. this blows

December 29, 2013 at 12:53 am
(43) Gary says:

This is my comment about this whole situation. It sucks. To know that congress is willingly throwing family’s out onto the streets while they have their. Nice high paying jobs good benefits and want for nothing. I have worked since the day I graduated. High school. Now. I’m living from week to week not knowing when I’m going to be that next person sleeping on a park bench out in the cold. What the hell is wrong with this country anymore. If congress thinks its so easy to find a job take their jobs away put therm out on the street and see how easy it is. To find a job tgast they say is so plentiful. These ppl in the white house need a dose of reality. They need to wake up. Or they think the government shutdown was a mess. Wait till they see. What’s gonna happen if there is no extension. And on top of it all. No one will have any $$$ to pay for this mandatory health insurance then what’s going to happen another. Mess congress is creating time for them to Wake up. And see America. For. What it really is. My slang is. This America in its present position is HAM. That stands for a Hot Ass Mess. Good luck figuring out this mess u have created

(44) Pam says:

Bring more jobs back to the States! I do not expect to be supported by the government. I go to Career Link 4 days a week and 95% of the people are 50 years old or older. These are the people searching for jobs with the advisors.
They have been at there jobs for 15 to 30 years. What does that say about the employers as well? I am sickened by the requirements of entry level jobs a BA degree for jobs that were a dime a dozen 10 years ago, really I need a BA to move pallets around in a warehouse!!!! Give me some money to start a business to employee only the middle aged people! So sad that our economy has been destroyed to the point of either going into debt for schooling or minimum wage job without a degree.

(45) Carolyn says:

I have called the phone numbers and left a message, however I feel we can do more. Is there a way that we can start an email train to the government with a certain statement that we can send to family and friend’s that they can delete the senders name and add there family and friend’s and send to the government. I feel this will kind of represent a petition and will have more impact then a phone call.

Amazing how “the superpower” of the world allows it’s own people to starve. Oh, but America can send billions in aid to countries that they themselves destroy, but could care less about it’s own people surviving. Must have been nice for congress to go home to celebrate Christmas with their families being served by their house help, while millions of families sat around their kitchen table holding past due bills in one hand and their head in another. Forget the whole politics of this nightmare for one moment and think about your fellow suffering American Citizens! Where is the humanity here?!?!

I have been looking for a job since I lost my job in May. I have since ran out of my unemployment benefits in the state of N.C. and was told that I could not get an extension. What am I supposed to do with children? I look for a job every day and there is just nothing in this area.

I have been laid a few time over the past 5 years and have had to rely on UI. However, this year has been the worst in terms of finding work. I am a professional with a degree and years of experience, and cannot even find a job paying $10 an hour. I have applied for literally 100′s of jobs and have only had a few interviews where I was not chosen.
My Christmas was destroyed, and could not afford to buy one present. I also got food from a church food pantry because I was trying to conserve my last $ for rent and gas. Nice Christmas dinner.. LOL

Thank you to our elected officials that have destroyed this country and are living high on the hog, while I have to eat pantry food. The US reminds me of a third world country.
I was going to contact Chuck Schumer, but that man doesn’t care about anybody but himself, while he’s lining his pockets (and he is a multimillionaire). These people are not at all concerned about me and my family. It’s a sad situation.

(49) Michael Casey says:

For congress not passing the legislation for extending unemployment show that those who are truly looking for employment like myself don’t count in government. In as time where long term unemployment is at its highest in years says something.
The Congress doesn’t realize that there are more people out of work, than there is jobs in the workforce, so there two to three applications, for every one job being posted. Also, most jobs I have applied for ask some type of experience in the field, so those who don’t have the experience needed, already have one strike again.
Believe me, when you have applied two hundred and forty-four times and only been interviewed 3 times, there seems not much promise. For the Republicans to say that the EUC prevents people from looking for jobs, they have really lost touch.
For a Congress, who haven’t done much in 2013, maybe should give their jobs for people who really want to work like myself.

Congress can’t get it together for the unemployed, like me, who need a little boost while trying to find that one job that gets them back in the work force. For Congress, and everyone else in U.S. Government that can’t seem to get their sugar, their honey, AND their iced tea together, I paraphrase the lyrics to Prince’s song “America”…

Aristocrats on a mountain climb,
Making money, losing time,
Communism is just a word,
But if the government turn over,
It’ll be the ONLY word that’s heard!

That is what ALL of this is seeming to be; beaurocratic communism! WE are the PUBLIC that THEY are supposed to SERVE! You call this “serving the public”? FRAGONAGLE BULL!!! I held down a job for 12 years, and was let go due to high blood pressure! I’m going to be 49 years old this year, and I STILL can’t get a job due to my work ethic, and my good standing with my company! SIX MONTHS?!!! REALLY?!!! And I’ll tell you something else that I found out that really, REALLY pisses me off!!! I found out that the working class is STILL making the billionaires rich…DESPITE THE FACT THAT YOU’RE UNEMPLOYED!!!
(say it with me) W! T! F! No one listens to us! No one wants to help us! The New American Dream is aLIEve! This extention has GOT to be signed! Those of us who WANT to work, and those who genuinely can’t, NEED THIS! Our 401K’s are getting hit with a tax that’s going to congress?!! (say it with me again) W! T! F! IS NOTHING SACRED?! IS THERE NO END?! WHAT KIND OF SERVICE ARE YOU REALLY DOING FOR US, OR ARE YOU TRYING TO MAKE THE PUBLIC YOUR SERVANTS?!!! GET IT TOGETHER, OR GET GONE!!!!!!

I am a 50 y/o single woman living in NJ. I lost my job 10 months ago because a new supervisor decided she did not like my religious beliefs, and found a loophole to lay me off. I have applied for over 30 jobs, and have signed up with 6 temp agecies. I have gotten 7 days work in the past 11 months from them. I am about to lose the roof over my head next month. I had to offset my income with my savings, and now i’m down to nothing. We desperately need this extension passed. I WANT to work, I’m LOOKING for work, I just need a chance, and a job!! Please pass this vote and extend benefits so that I can at least put gas in my car and travel to look for employment! Sorry for all of the stories that I read that are going through similar circumstances. Call congress people!! Voting is taking place next week!!

(53) Suzanne says:

after working 27 years for the same company I accepted transfer to another state only to find myself laid off after 2 mores years of service. I had more than 29 years of employment with the telephone company and was laid off because the HR rep and our General Manager did not know how to read a Union Contract. Our Union Local told me to be thankful I didn’t have children at home to support and would make sure I received severance pay. Since I received severance and didn’t find employment I filed for benefits and was denied, so I accepted a position with the Postal Service, a 67 mile drive each way to work 2 to 3 hours a day 1 to 6 days a week, after earning 2800. doing that I gave up hoping for full time employment and quit, filed for benefits and was allowed to start receiving benefits, now because I am 50 and unable to find full time employment I am not sure what I am supposed to do next. We export our jobs overseas, we reward large companies, but do nothing for the American people, now because we can’t afford health insurance we will be fined, many of us will end up homeless and then what???? What is our government doing to help the people who have worked for years, paid their taxes and done everything right to attempt to achieve the American Dream???? They take vacations and don’t feel obligated to be fiscally responsible, they allow BS bailouts and ta cuts for the wealthy and complain about people needing help. I am widowed and have exhausted my savings and am soon to be among the homeless because of my age and a technicality….. what is Congress going to do for me and the millions of Americans like me???? I don’t want hand outs I want a job…. until that happens I need to be able to get by.

I can’t believe..well then again yes I can believe and see so clearly now how uncaring those who control the government are. To have no care for the 1.7 million people who have children, homes and have basic bills to pay in order to survive and need to even go out and look for jobs.

so what are people suppose to do.. go to the government welfare in order to try to have our mortgage and rent paid, and what about food. what about care fare and gas money to look for a job. I mean really how can they be so caring ..

I know how because they are only concerned with Power and their own money and the control of this entire country, in which they are so close to doing. They create these problems in order to do so.they put more focus oh healthcare and use that as a bargaining source in order to get what they want. So they want people to be homeless, shoot and kill people for food, so that they can declare emergency to have Martial Law…This is all in their plan….

Lord God I pray that you have your way in this matter, and meet the needs of your people. Father I ask that you step in and touch the hearts of the people involved to approve the extension immediately and to make a way and available jobs for us to work in time…Have mercy Lord on us and on America, for we all see the destruction of America because of it being in the hands of the pride, and greedy…

I agree with the other comments, that they need to extend the benefits, & do this immediately, they should of settled this before they all went on vacations, congress doesn’t know what it’s like to live with NO income.
I’ve worked for a company for 15yrs, & they couldn’t figure out how to keep the company going, so they recently went bankrupt, & we were not informed until the day of, & they obviously didn’t care either.
I’ve been looking around at jobs, it’s very tough out there, & now there’s nothing out there, businesses are cutting back & slowing down . They need to help more Americans out, in these terrible times…..they are always there for everyone else, what about us? We need money to pay our bills as well as for food to survive…I can’t even afford to get that healthcare anyway! But the extension would help……
We need to have more jobs in America! The AMERICAN’S need MORE HELP …….

I think that unemployment should be extended. I have worked over 40 years and paid into unemployment. Now at the age of 66 I find myself in the job market that is not geared to a person my age. Please there are so many hard working people who need help to continue with their lives and help their family.

But to top it off my wife who is 6 months pregnant has to stop seeing the dr we have had because i cant afford it. i am at the point that i am selling everything i own on ebay at 1/5th its value just to buy food and pay for heat. without EUC we will be evicted from our home at the end of the month and being homeless in february with a baby on the way is SO SCARY. i have 2 years of collage and have 13 years in the job field. im 27yrs old and i have applied to over 300 jobs since being on EUC. I dont even get responses anymore. Now with MILLIONS of people desperate for work i cant even get a job for 7$ an hour. from 38$ an hour to not even able to get 7$.,.. this country is taking out its own citizens!!! PLEASE HELP

But those tired azz republican talking heads can sit on their $75,000+++ job having butt and say that all of us that are busting tail looking for job aren’t deserving of receiving help??? How about this, why not have a vote to REDUCE your pay, LOSE your job, LOSE your home or car and see how it really feels to have to wait on a check week to week and decide if you want to either buy groceries or keep your lights on…This country better not EVER go into another war and help the other country since they can’t help their OWN CITIZENS!! My husband’s unemployment ran out Dec. 28 2013. We have been struggling just like all who lost their benefits My husband has been looking for work for sometime now, but with no luck. His age has alot to do with it, and is really getting him down. We are about to get kicked out of our home if these people don’t get their act together soon, and reinstate the benefits. We are 58 and 59 years old. Never had to sleep in our car before, and don’t need to start now. The people in the senate don’t have to worry about their jobs, or their homes. We are the ones that have to. Let them spend a month in our shoes. Maybe then they will know how it feels. The money may not be much, but it helps out with what I bring home. Don’t get me wrong, my husband would rather be working. And making a way for himself, and not rely on anybody else. Losing it in Indiana!

I was layed off in June and now I can’t pay my bills cause some senator thinks he all that and then some, lay him off and not give him nothing and see how he likes it!!!! Lay them all off I think we would be better off! They can give themselves trillions to play with and let us live in the streets! Welcome to America! Congress, don’t turn your back on your own citizens. We spend 51 Billion dollars in Foreign Aid and Military assistance last year, but you will let your own US Citizens lose their homes and not be able to feed their families.

It makes me sick that 45 Republicans voted no to extended EUC benefits. What is wrong with these people? I hope they rot in hell for doing this. They get to go home, spend time with their families and have no worries.

I am going to lose everything. I will not be able to feed my family come Feb. I am also being evicted from my HOME.
Not extending these benefits will lead to:
Foreclosures on Homes and Businesses

Foreign Aid
In fiscal 2013, U.S. government funding for humanitarian assistance and international development will total around $37 billion. (Back in October, I included spending on diplomacy in the numbers that I reported. In order to directly address the question of how much we give in aid to other countries, I’m now leaving out diplomacy and operations of the State Department.)

Foreign Military Assistance
In addition, the U.S. will spend around $14 billion in fiscal 2013 for foreign military assistance – that’s money spent on training foreign armies and providing them with weapons.

I’m having a hard time since I’m 61 soon to be 62 and there isn’t a lot of places out there that want to hire someone at retirement age. I think the people that are getting unemployment for 6 months, to back to work and get laid off again and then collect is the people who should have there unemployment stopped. There should be a way of filtering out the people that just don’t want to work. I worked all my life and now I only want what is right, not a handout. And now I have no health insurance because I cannot afford it and don’t qualify for Medicaid like all the foreigners I see coming into the practice where I work. They NEVER have to pay a nickel. And they are all obnoxious and rude. I never thought I would feel this way toward other human beings. Want to know where all of the money and work we have invested in this country has gone? To all the foreigners we are supporting. You know. The ones speaking there native language and looking at us like we don’t belong here. And just so you know, there are no jobs out there. My ex husband has been on MANY, MANY interviews, sometimes two and three for the same job. Nothing. Some don’t even have the decency to let you know you didn’t get the job even after you went on two or three interviews. It’s disgusting and discouraging. But guess what? When there is nothing left for them to take the joke will be on them. As long as I have air to breathe and my faith, my family will survive. You can’t put a price on my soul.

I am 30 yrs old and don’t think its any easier for younger people to find work than it is for older people… We need to apply at atleast 4 places a week.. Well I have been doing atleast that in 1 day since May… I worked cash jobs off and on over the summer and reported them to ui.. I now wish I hadn’t because My benefits have stopped as of 12/28.. I have had countless interviews and still nothing.. How can I even get to an interview with no income? I went from $1100 a week to $363 a week to nothing.. Why would anyone abuse a system that cant even pay our bills? Politicians are so out of date with the people that voted them into office because either they have never been there themselves or just don’t remember what its like.. Republicans and Democrats both need to get up off their asses and do what they were hired to do.. quit taking vacations when so many people are waiting to find out what the fate of our families futures are!! And Mr. Obama.. PLEASE stop playing golf and taking mini getaways at the massive expense of our country..

(92) Diana Leach says:

I think that as long as there is unacceptable unemployment rates in this country as well as unacceptable minimum wages all politicians should be forced to live for 3 months with their families, outside of their homes, in rentals, and to live off of the minimum wages they think the rest of us can live on. They should have to navigate the welfare system just in order to get foodstamps because minimum wage jobs do not pay enough to even buy food. Live without their credit cards. Try to pay for car insurance on those fancy cars. Oh wait, most of those cars are probably owned by the government anyway. They should have to navigate a bus system that cares not if you get to work on time, whether your frozen, or about to pass out from heat. In other words they should have to live like a low wage earner which is basically what they want to call good enough. Minimum wage jobs shouldn’t even be considered job growth when it comes to the job market because they really aren’t even fit for a teenager’s after school job. These politicians need to get some insight into the real world, not the one of privilege.

the extension would be helpful, even if just for a couple weeks. some communication from the unemployment offices would be nice, to notify you of how long you have to claim, how long you have left and it would have been nice to know if you was included in this cutoff. i understand there needs to be an end, but we need notification and warning.

Because of the changes the government made I was financially unable to open claim on state level however was able to get euc. Do get work sometimes but its not regular and its been months now since I got any work. I count on the euc to help me as a single dad to pay my bills n support my family. I hope these greedy politicians think about the people who puts them in office to work for us…the people. Elections are soon and I know I will be looking at who votes this bill down and I will vote for who thinks of the people before there own political party’s.

I am so disgusted with this country I to have never been on unemployment before and now am about to lose everything. They had better get this reinstated soon or I will be homeless although I really don’t believe they care. I also tried to get ahold of John Baners office yesterday and was on hold for over an hour and then tried to leave a voicemail and was told voicemail was full and disconnected. I have worked all my life. Now raising two grand daughters and the Unemployment I was receiving is gone in a flash. Over a Vote. Well I wonder if they understand what goes on out here in the real world that they themselves are making decisions over? I have worked all my life. My company I was employed by shut the doors. Not my fault.

Now here I am a grandmother – raising two beautiful grand daughters that I do not know how I am going to provide for.
Scenarios of applying for a job, Ma’am (they call me that as soon as I enter because I am older then the 20 year old supervisor they pay minimum wage to) You are overqualified for this job. But I see the issue here. Too old for this job. ” Well I do not see how you would fit in ”

See I like many others have paid into our unemployment insurance, our taxes and VOTED. Worked hard all of our lives. My votes will change come next election, neither the dems or republicans deserve a vote. Maybe they should know what it is like to look at their child with empty pockets and have to tell them it is Ramen noodles again.

(102) Bob D. says:

I am personally offended and pissed off that congress took a break after they just had a vacation and did not get this sorted out. I am upset with all members of congress for this….

But with that said do NOT forget come election time that both the 3 month and 11 month proposals to continue the extensions presented by the Dems were blocked by the Republicans..and then they went off on vacation number 2 while so many who were laid off by no fault of thier own and still can not find work. And now while congress is on ANOTHER break..these unemployed American workers can’t even pay their bills.

I was never so ashamed of this country before. Now who knows they may get to this after vacation number 2 and fix it…or not but it seems so wrong that they do nothing but pander and posture about “job creation” yet do nothing to encourage it, allow so many jobs to be outsourced unfettered, and then cut everyone who would have qualified for EUC off like we are worthless garbage. I don’t think a single unemployed person who qualifies for UIB or EUC was responsible for the economic conditions that caused this.

So please everyone remember and spread the word. We all KNOW who caused this, and we know who is blocking the help we need NOW, and we know who is doing nothing to encouage job growth. But what they do encourage is tax breaks and loop holes and subsities and shelters and bailouts for the richest of the rich. Let us eat cake.

The ONLY power we have to turn this country back around not to be such a disgrace..is in the voting booth. Well that or another revolutionary war.

Well let me FIRST in the month of January to agree with everyone in December. I am a mother of two and with the cut off of my unemployment I cannot pay my rent and other bills. Where do I live now? My son graduate this year a honor student I wanted to celebrate comfortably. I am amazed at congress not showing concern. People are losing their minds and more killings are going on and robbing. People in mansions with only two people in them. (Some people) I started a part time job at 10dollars a hour can’t make it with just that in this economy. We pour back into the economy with those benefits. So who is losing? I have been off a year but their father has been off 3year’s. I don’t know where to go but I’m trusting God and love one’s.

Honorable Senate & Congress members: It is of utmost importance to pass EUC benefits Bill, because there will be 5 million people who will be out of Jobs for more than 26 weeks in June of 2014. This will be of huge consequence for US & Economy in particular. EUC benefits are survival tools for people, to get next employment. This is not welfare scheme. Therefore this EUC bill must be passed by the US Government.

Being a single parent of two is very hard, then to have your only means of providing a roof over your kids head and food on the table snatched away from you, is no wonder I am still typing today.

I’m someone who is struggling to make ends meet while diligently looking for gainful employment. I have been made to feel ashamed by many of the powers that be that I need euc benefits which is unfair. I have paid into unemployment benefits with my tax dollars since I stared working at 15 and I was happy to do so to help my fellow Americans. I don’t think its right that I be denied these benefits after I’ve been eager to help and extremely grateful to those who are helping me. I’m not someone on welfare endlessly taking advantage of American tax payers, I’m someone who has been thrust into a situation in which I’m terrified and haven’t found a way out yet.

After 36 years of working non stop and at an age of 54, finding a new job is very difficult and a full time job. I’m was into my 2nd tier of euc until the cutoff came. When our politicians battle about finding payment for this program; I have to wonder if they ever battle about the billions and billions of dollars that are sent to other countries. Time to bring it home and concern themselves with the US citizens and this country.

(109) Mrs. Barr says:

I take offense to the negative comments about individuals receiving unemployment. There are numerous ways people find that they are in need of help and to beat us while we are down. I became unemployed after being promised a position in order to make sure my family remained strong. However, things are not always what they seem and therefore life takes a huge hit. I have a masters degree and have worked or attended school since I was 16 years old and I loved my previous job. If we had not received unemployment, our family would not have been able to eat or pay bills without help. However, we are blessed to have help if we needed it but most people do not have help. Unemployment assistance is sometimes the difference between life and death.

I have paid into UI for the past 45 years. I was on UI for the past one year, while applying for 4-10 jobs a week with no luck whatsoever.

Now there’s no extension and I was also told I don’t qualify for the renewal of state benefits because I didn’t make enough money last year. No kidding. I was on UI.

Our representives are approving raises and benefits for themselves and I can’t even buy groceries. Had to file for early soc. sec. Try living on that. Oh and by the way, the whiz kids in washington slashed food stamps so that means I “make too much money” for food stamps. ($14000 a year is too much money for food stamps.)

Maybe we should march in on one of those $5000 a plate fundraisers, sit down and have a meal.

You know I have debated if I should even comment on this whole issue because the reality of it is, congress will probably never see the comments from the American people. I am so frustrated with this whole issue the people leading our nation are acting so dumb founded; they are acting like a 2 year old. The whole bickering back and forth among themselves and being selfish reminds me of a 2 year old. Let’s be adults and think about the American people and think about what this nation is coming to people. I breaks my heart to see how selfish this world is coming to every day. Yes, this is my first time to ever be on unemployment and along with myself and the others that are on unemployment have had the pleasure of witnessing first hand of what this nation is really coming to.

I don’t have money for food, rent, I had to buy a roll of TP with pennies the other day, after walking in the cold because I can’t afford to put gas in my car. I don’t understand how there can be so many of us and yet, it feels like we are a dirty secret, and that the complete and utter disregard for us by congress hasn’t caused more of an uproar.

What is wrong with our leaders? Have they no compassion, no understanding of what it’s like to be put out to pasture? Those of us who have been faithful citizens and given from our heart over many years are now being traumatized by their disrespect and insensitivity. We worked hard for our government and we fought many wars for our leaders but what do we get in return but a kick in the teeth, a degrading attitude of complacency. What is wrong with our leaders? What is wrong with our leaders? What is wrong with our leaders?!!!!!!!

I am still trying to put my head around the fact that these people left us out in the cold ,holding us hostage while they try to gain brownie points in washington. Even an evil kidnapper will feed his hostage! these people literally left us to die. They have it twisted, they work for us we dont work for them! We vote them in Dem and Rep. to do a job and WE pay them handsomely . Every time they eat ,we pay, everywhere they go,we pay,!!! every time they get paid,WE PAY. we pay them to do a job for us which involves looking out for our best interest,DO I HAVE TO SAY MORE??? people treat dogs and animals better than we are being treated at this time. How can we call this the UNITED STATES when we have laws that vary from state to state, two political parties that are at odds all the time, and a few men holding 1.6 million people hostage and not feeding them ,those that voted them in and pay theyre salaries???

I have same troubles as Jan. Experience is great. But once potential employers hear age experience does not matter (too old). They don’t ask your age or date of birth, I guess for fear of being accused of age discrimination. They are now asking for the year you graduated high school. As soon as I say the year there is a change in their voice.

My wife has been employed as a legal secretary and court reporter for 26 years. I have been employed by the Treasury Depatment and have been a certified special education teacher for 5 years. A total of 22 years. Her unemployement insurance ran out on December 28th and I work part-time as a server at a restaurant. We are unable to live on $500 per month, even though we are staying at stepson’s house which is about to be in foreclosure. We have two boys, 22 and 10, and we are doing everything we can to find employment and not rely on governement aid. Not extending unemployment amounts to child abuse becasue we will be on the street, if we do not find employment. A three month extension would very helpful, as we try to get back on our feet.

The problem with being unemployed for 51 weeks (and counting) is that the longer you are unemployed, the more difficult it is to get a prospective employer to consider you. It isn’t for lack of trying! I get sent leads for jobs that are low paying, and then I’m told that I’m over qualified. Go figure! I’ve had no income now for a month – and I’m not alone! C’mon Congress! Pull your collective thumbs out from where they are hiding, and help the people of THIS country stay warm and fed. We should come before the majority of the bills you all are pushing with your thousand dollar pencils!

I think it is a dirty rotten shame that congress won’t pass extension on unemployment benefits. My husband and I both lost the benefits. We cannot find a job we are looking for work everyday, I am a full time student working for my Bachelor degree, so it is not like I am just sitting around collecting benefits. I am so tired of all you guys fighting over middle class and what you can do to screw us. Why don’t all of you guys take a pay cut . I think you should try to live on 8-10 dollars an hour, all did I mention try working for a company for years then they give you a pink slip , saying sorry we are moving over seas. I think all of Americans need to pull together and boot everyone of you guys out of the white house.

This situation is disgusting. My husband and I have worked hard our entire lives. We are both over 60, well educated and qualified for many jobs, but NO ONE will hire us. Our government doesn’t care what happens to us, so let’s not forget this at election time. I know I won’t.

January 31, 2014 at 12:33 pm
(148) Mary says:

For many of us over 60, not wealthy, need the next six to ten years to make certain we are not a financial burden in retirement. Loss of job and the job search for the 60+ is very different than someone 50 and younger. This is the first time I have been out of work. I have had employment since I was 15. The business I worked for closed last June. Where are all the companies that are hiring older Americans? If you are healthy and want to work at 60+ where do you turn? The little bit of money one receives on Unemployment is not enough to keep you out of the job market. I think Senators and Representatives should care more about the human element of what it is like to be out of work. It is no longer living the American Dream. It is the American nightmare and no place to turn. The United States would rather help a foreign country than our own citizens.

January 31, 2014 at 3:37 pm
(149) Evelyn says:

This is so devastating. I don’t have words to express it. I can’t talk about it to anyone. I used up what little savings I had before finally going on unemployment, which was my right, because I needed to eat and pay rent. So I did that and not gotten to a tier yet, just completed the 26 weeks. I went to look at the cantor facebook page listed above to post to please help us, but it just gets me very upset so I didn’t. I am 55, always on my own, and working since 18. People who think we are just not wanting to work must be very mean in all aspects of their life. Their will always be those who take advantage, that is true for every segment of life! But the hard working, middle aged person who has done what they can and worked thru’out their lives should not be treated this way, and this slow drawn out hope about a vote– how mean! I am heartbroken. This will take me forever or never to get over and I feel like I am in a foreign world and see how cruel people can be to people in legitimate need. Where am I? :(

I look everyday for a job but cannot even get an interview. I have faith in God and truly believe that things are going to change for the better. I cannot believe my own country can help everybody else, but not take care of our own right here in what I believe to be the best country in the world! Really… This needs to happen for lots of reasons. People are going homeless and cannot eat!!!! What are you thinking???

(153) Greg says:

It doesn’t help matters on extending EUC benefits that FAMOUS talk show hosts making millions of dollars blast this program weekly. What they don’t see is US trying to find a good paying job and getting turned down every day or not been contacted. $500 a week is what this guy pays for one of his fancy cigars. That said OBAMA has to do something for those that lost EUC funds on 12/28/13. We are all in a life raft with a lot of holes and water coming in it NOW without those weekly funds. This amount is nothing compared to what CONGRESS blows each month on PORK projects and other waste. EUC helps Americans.

My brother has worked in heavy equipment in Nevada for almost 40 years. Now he has not worked in a year and was dropped on 12/28, He is 60 but does not want to stop working. He is bored, I am having to help support him from our family’s dwindling funds and he is not the only one. There are so many in this pile. We are degrading good people who are ready and willing to work hard and be part of the progress of this country instead of a drain. Please start up the extension on unemployment again and please start on Intrstructure renewals that will put a lot of these skilled laborers back to work. This is a travesty to our country and makes us look pretty bad to our neighbors. US has always been a leader in bettering the lives of people and here we now are way behind, except maybe the French.

I agree with the gentleman who said none of these politicians must know anyone who has been laid off, especially at the age of 59. I have had SOME interviews and they mention that I have great experience and that they will put me in for another interview, however, never hear from them again. I send notes each time I interview to thank them and to express my interest in the position, but never hear back from any of them. I believe it’s because of my age and furious these companies get away with this. I have many years left in me to work, but have not been given the opportunity. It’s frustrating! Now they want to shut off our unemployment, yet hear on the news, the president wants to pay for the children of illegal aliens to got to college!!! Why aren’t they helping out Americans that have worked hard all their lives! I have worked since I was 14 and need help while I am unemployed and looking desperately for a job!

I was shocked… depressed… and lost in my life. We are about to be homeless and the euc voters have no idea what they are doing. Send them to my house for a day to see what it is like to deal with the situations I had no idea I would be dealing with. At my age, this is just not fair. THE MORTGAGE , I don’t want to discuss, I may throw up ! we don’t like sponging off of anyone. I got up everyday and went to work, but things are different now. (162) Mary says:

This is past June, I found myself without a job after 22 years working in Human Resources. I was in a state of denial and shock for six months.
I had not thought about retiring in 2013, since I am on my own and needed to continue in my career in order to be able financially to live my life. I had no pension, and all I had was my 401k plan that lost a significant amount of money in 2010.
I found out a month before my last day that I had no job after June 30. The summer time was a little easier to be out of work, however I immediately began my job search. When summer ran into fall and fall into winter, I really became very worried. For the first time in my life, I applied for Unemployment Benefits and was pretty sure I would find another job quickly. To my dismay this is not the case. Since I am over 60 and have worked in one place for 22 years, I am finding it so difficult to find work. I was good at what I was doing, and I loved my job. I loved helping employees. Now my unemployment benefits have run out, and because our Congress cannot make up their minds about extending them, I am without any income at all. I have to go on Medicare, and I also will need to to put my home up for sale very soon. No income, no home.
I am now going to try to look for a part time job of any kind; since all my expertise for the last 22 years in Human Resources is not getting me anywhere in the job market. I am determined and very reliable. I left my job with over 160 hours of sick pay in my bank. I seldom missed work and hardly ever took a sick day.
As I travel through this unemployed rocky road, I am keeping my head up along with my sprits….friends and family have been so supportive! I am trying to be optimistic
Congress should extend the benefits until the end of this year, at least they will have time to think about a plan that would work for both of us Why is our Congress not acting on this very important issue?

I am currently collecting unemployment. However, I have been working since I was in the 9th grade and I have a Masters of Arts and BS Management degree. Also, I have a paralegal certificate and an Associate of Science degree. The problem is that I cannot find work unless I remove all of my education and working history. The other is is that I am 52 years of age and most employers want younger workers who do not use insurance often. I served my country for 10 years and now I am barely making a living. I continue to pray that the extension of unemployment will take place this week. Please pray for and with me.

47 years I worked for the same place. over the years with the changes in health care jobs were eliminated. The past 2 years the are worst. My Job was eliminated and I am now looking for work, at anything. during the 15 months I have looked alot of changes had to be made. first things to go cell phones, cable TV, internet, (I am using my brothers computer at his home) insurance coverage for us and the car. Then we lost credit cards, lost our home, lost our car, and to think I only had 6 more payments on a 7 year loan. Then we had to make more choices, heating or lights. Lights won. I bath in cold water. Now my meds had to stop for hypertension I can no longer get the cancer meds my husband needs. Food well we eat every other day one small meal. My land loard where I rent a modest $700.00 appartment has been understanding but not the bank so now we need to move again. This is now 37 days with out UI benefits. I see no future for us, Welfare is not treated like this why are we so discriminated aginist. I to am finding no answers to applications, over qulified really takes the cake. They went on a vacation while I walked place to place daily looking for work. They ate everyday I didn’t. I dont want to live on unemployment but it is all I had now. I am ashamed to say I’m a Republican voter. I will rethink this in the future.

These unemployment extensions should be continued. Just because they have been renewed a few times does not mean they should stop them. It is really hard to find employment these days and who knows if it will become easier in the future.

(169) D. Pope says:

Since I got laid off from my job of 13 years, yes, I was collecting Unemployment Benefits and looking for full time employment. However, for every (1) job in my field; 100 other people are applying and I’m guessing at my age, it will be difficult.
I applied at Board of Social Services in Rochelle Park on 1/14/13 for Rent, Bill Assistance, Foods Stamps and Medicade. At which time they sent me to a Workforce program in Hackensack that takes about (4-6) weeks before I see any kind of benefits.
With that said, prior to going to the ER yesterday and my ribs killing me, I went back to the Board of Social Services and ask them if they can get some of my benefits pushed faster. They replied, “there is nothing we can do; you just have to wait.”!

What kind of government are we living in? I’ve never been on Welfare or unemployment; this is my first time. What am I supposed to do about my monthly bills when nobody in New Jersey will help? Not one person! New Jersey is apparently also out of state assisted funds as well!
Me and my Army Vet son are also about to get evicted from our apartment. However, nobody will help you with that until you have a court notice of eviction. I’ve been in that situation before; had the court notice of eviction, showed up for court and got evicted anyway; so I don’t get it!
My son who’s 26 is a full time student; an Army Vet of (8) years and there aren’t any jobs for him as well. All false that VETS are getting jobs; so not TRUE!

Your state of the Union stated you would get the EUC benefits pushed fast; I DON’T SEE THIS HAPPENING!

We or me who speak for women and men across the country urge the senate to extend EUC at least give us a few months to try to get ahead untill jobs becomes available…

(171) Janice says:

I agree the unemployment should be extended. Not only is this affecting the millions of unemployed people right now and their immediate families, but this is also affecting others. I am divorced, but my ex husband is one of the unfortunate people that was cut off. In turn, this has made life harder for me and my daughter. Without his unemployment, I am unable to get child support. It’s a new month, and I am unable to pay my mortgage payment, and am struggling to pay some bills. I’ve had to work more hours just to get by, and am spending less time with my child. Congress needs to understand the many effects this has on everyone.

I and many others are tired of all these school yard political tactics, used by some, in both parties of the house ! They are all acting like a bunch of play ground bullies. We have some bickering children making decisions for all the men and women who’s backs built this country, and to think, we’re the one’s who voted these children into office. The founding fathers of this country must be spinning in their graves. Would a soldier of the USA leave another wounded soldier to die on the battle field ? The answer is NO. Yet, congress will leave 1.6 million people to starve right here in the USA, how selfish. Yet again, our nation’s leaders would ask those who are at recruiting age, of that same 1.6 million, to go into battle for the USA, if a crisis arises and military action is needed. What are the unemployed asking for ? All we want is a fighting chance to find a job and secure our humble but significant lives. I dare any white house representative to walk in our shoes for 26 weeks, let alone, an additional 3 months. Congress, please change your attitudes, and return to being the responsible, rational men and women, whom we have voted for, and pass the euc extension.

Hello, I was working in Banking and got laid off of no fault of my own in 2008 my husband had a tumer in his head and had to quit his job. SSi does not pay much. I have been looking and working part-time and taking my husband to all of his Dr. Appointments. I am not complaining by all means all I want is a job. But unemployment would help me get to interviews and pay bills. I know it is in God’s hands and all we can do is pray and pray for everyone. Everybody keep smiling and we will get through this bump in the road.

My ex husband has worked at a company for almost 30 years. He is 53. This man made a terrible hourly salary so worked almost 80 hours a week with overtime just to make a decent paycheck. He got laid off for the first time in March 2013 and now they cut him off for ECU. Are you kidding me? This damn goverment made sure they collected big time money on his overtime for taxes but now you say he can’t have anything back? I swear, if it was possible, i would stop paying my damn taxes. That is another joke. The goverment made sure they took out taxes on the damn unemployment they gave you for 6 short months! Not that we could afford it anyway, but I REFUSED to help this economy. I will not purchase anything but food. They think the economy will get better because they say unemployment is at its lowest rate. So what does that mean….Stop paying the people who still need it! Somebody please give me the names of all the congressmen who have voted again this bill. Cause I wil not support them and I will tell all my family and friends not to support them either. This is a DISGRACE for the USA!

(177) Dano says:

This year I find myself without work and denied UC benefits. Since I work mostly construction jobs I pay a lot into my state UC fund during my peak work periods. As a resident of Pa. they just passed ACT 60 that requires workers to earn less than 50.5% of their wages in their highest quarter. Although I paid in much more than the required amount and worked much more than the required weeks I was still denied because of this new percentage. My only hope was the EUC program. Now I am without income and have a 5 year old daughter to support. I have been visiting, calling, and sending messages to all my state and national reps. It seems to me that big business is funding a direct attack on the working people. My new motto for legislators that support laws that hurt the working people…..destroying people….one family at a time.

Well tomorrow, February 6, 2014, is the day of either action or immobility. Will the senate back us or continue to immobilize us. Will they continue to victimize us to the dim and cold realities of life. Are their memories that short when it comes to the working class people of this country ? Hey it’s me Chuck ! I’m the guy who use to build and maintain all your state and federal buildings in my state ! Hey it’s Dano, Kate, Justin, Shela, Gabriel, on, and on and on, and on, all hard working people, desperately looking for a chance to earn again. We are just a small hand full of the 1.7 million, and growing, citizens of the USA who were economically wounded by this disastrous recession, to no fault of our own. We’re the hard working people who voted you into office, and believe me, our memories are not short. We will NOT forget all the stress and despair that you all have caused to the vast majority of Americans. To think of how many American Men and Women, who put there lives in danger in foreign nations in defense of freedom, many who are no longer with us, and still some of our leaders obviously can’t make the connection, that it is WE who put our lives on the line for this country, THE US of A. Extend our EUC benefit or you WILL feel our wrath at voting booths come the elections. Give us the chance to fight and we can forgive but never forget.

(180) Jackie says:

I am praying for all of us. I have left comments on Facebook pages only to have all on unemployment to be labeled bums. Who exactly had to pay hefty Federal taxes from their over 40 years of employment? Where does the “government” think their money comes from. Without the working people of this country the government would not exist or at least in any form you see now. I see us leaning toward everyone working for a higher minimum wage no matter your experience or education while your government reaps the profits. The trend looks more and more like communist Russia to me every day. The Farm bill they past is to cut food stamps type aid and increase farmers markets. Get ready for farm labor and food lines. Probably an exaggeration but really not looking good. God bless us especially those veterans unemployed or homeless already.God bless our country and it’s leaders and give them the insight to know that creating more homeless is not the answer. Creating jobs is great but the middle class older Americans are losing what they and their ancestors have worked for and fought for while we search and wait for them.

After reading other comments I now know there are others that feel the same way I do. I started babysitting at age 11 and have held a job every since,. I graduated high school in 1975 and did not have the means to go to college. I lost my full time job to ” Part Time on call” December 2012 due to the Defense Budget cuts. Guess that was for golf games and vacations. No one has mentioned the 12.8% that was deducted from Unemployment Benefits due to “Budget Cuts” once again, I also elected to have Federal taxes taken out of my weekly check. So where is our money going? The new insurance plan is hurting getting full time employment also. I recently had to cash in my 401K, of in which the Federal government took over $4000. It doesn’t seem llike anyone is listening to us, both Senators from my state voted against the extension, wonder if they play golf! Too much time I believe is being spent on Immigration reform and not on people like us

I have no gas money to get to somewhere to use online tools. Hello. I’m loosing my home. Power is being shut off. Phone as well. Harder and harder to ask for favors. Such as a ride from family and friends. Children outgrowing their clothes with no means to replace them. I could go on and on. I worked full time since I was 17. I am now 43. I also served my country with pride for 8 years. only been out of work since april 2013. Not asking for a hand out. Just some help. This 3 month extension is vital to my families future.

I just spoke to someone regarding the EUC and they told me that congress was voting on it today. I lost my job that I had had for 10 years because I needed to care for my dying mother. When I began using my FMLA more frequently my supervisor began to find all these things that I was doing wrong and would write me up for it. Long story short I got fired!
My mother passed away and I have been looking for work since June and have yet to find anything (possibly due to my age 58 or the way things have changed in the computer age). The unemployment check I received at least let me pay something towards my bills, now I have 0 income. I am hoping that this bill passes and that we just don’t get passed by.

Age makes a huge difference when looking for employment not to mention the Health care bill and poor economy we are in. Experience doesn’t count, age does since health care is needed by people in my age group. I am a Vietnam veteran and this is the way Congress treats its veterans. I just can’t understand why the republicans are being so cruel! Many people, such as myself depend on these benefits to pay bills. Do they not know what they are doing to these 1.7 million people? I look for jobs everyday only to be told I am “over qualified” for these jobs. At this point I will take anything just to be able to care for my child. It’s very sad that they even let these benefits expire in the first place. I’ve read stories over the past few weeks of people extremely close to being homeless because they no longer have this lifeline. I hope the dems continue to push and finally get somewhere. I’m going to remain optimistic about the situation and when it’s time to vote I know who will NOT receive my vote!!! God bless you all.

A number months later 120 more I was one of these. God bless all you folks and I pray we find work or at least our goverment could pass the unemployment extensions. Thanks for giving me 8 months to find a job before you slit my children and my throat, my/our American dream is over so much for the house with the white picket fence it will be forclosed by the end of the month after 11 years of hard work! I have been in the workforce for over 25 years, I’ve been out of work for only about 2 of them yet when I need my unemployment benefits they are cut off?? I wish I could refuse to pay into unemployment benefits at my next job since I can’t get any of it back when I need it, but NO, that is against the law!!
I agree some people do take advantage of the benefits, I do think there should be a limit [maybe 1.5 - 2 years] No one should be on unemployment for 5 years! But it does take time to get a decent job in todays market. Why should I have to take a low paying job, make that 2 low paying jobs in order to keep my home & maybe have enough to feed my family? How about if congress stops getting raises, taking extended paid vacations & sending sooooo much of our country’s money overseas before our own are taken care of? It’s disgusting!!!! Congress doesn’t care that people can’t afford to pay there heating bills! Do you realize how much more money the government will spend on food stamps & public assistance since they cut off unemployment??? I have never applied for either, but I’m going to now!! That still won’t help me keep my home but at least I can eat!! This is going to cause so much more crime, child abuse, neglect of everyday living & more demand from already diminished food bank supplies for a lot of US citizens! Does that sound good for our country Congress?? I bet your house is paid off, you have 3 good meals a day and no worries of how your going to warm your home this winter! HOW ABOUT THINKING OF THE REST OF AMERICA FOR ONCE?? I job search for hours EVERYDAY! What are you doing to help? We voted you into office to help protect us & yes, I do vote! Tonight while your eating your nice dinner think about how many Americans are wondering where there next meal will come from!

I can’t believe that unemployment is not being extended. I lost my job in July of 2013. They have been extending it since 2008 I believe, but of course when I unfortunately need to rely on unemployment it is cut back to 26 weeks only. They would never take away welfare recipients’ low rent assistance (roof over their heads month after month, year after year, decade after decade} or food stamps because they are ‘low income’ but yet it’s okay to take away/stop the only income people who worked and paid into unemployment. This $300 per week at least kept most of us sheltered and fed but now it’s gone. I am now three months delinquent on my home which will probably be foreclosed on without emergency unemployment being reinstated. How can congress even take a recess knowing what the situation is for over a million people?!!!

Congress has no idea what they have created(THE UNEMPLOYED EXTENTION KATRINA!) Millions of people in distress and congress not doing a damn thing about it. All Republicans see are numbers, and not what 1.7 million people are going through. Congress needs to get a taste of their own medicine and never vote Republican as well as limit terms to eight years so they can truely be public servant and not have the abiliity to build their”House of Cards”. I know now I can’t sit back and allow these politians become dictatators and run this country to the ground as they’ve done for the past ten years. For now I’ll go take a “recess” in my home (car) and have my one meal from the dollar meal and try to manage how I will survive with the last 20.00 in my pocket.
Republicans are dispicable for allowing this travesty be done to their people.

The most I have ever been on unemployment in the last 25 years is one month. I was laid off in July and have been looking diligently for a job. I’ve qualified for city jobs, and had an interview, here or there, but nothing substantial. My regular benefits ended Jan. 18th. No more money. I am desperately looking for work at this point. How are we supposed to live until we find work? If this was impacting Harry Reid’s family, I bet you he’d pass this in a heart beat. It was okay to bail out all those banks, which was truly a crime, but you can’t help your citizens? I’m beyond disappointed in my government. You have failed me and my family. It seems like our government is doing whatever they want, with no regards to how it impacts us. They’re playing a game at our expense and we are allowing them to do it. They don’t even listen. I don’t get it.

It is inexcusable that the Unemployment Benefits Extension did not pass. If by chance one of you legislators or close aids read this site, please vote for this extension. You are killing us, the ones who have worked all of our lives, and can’t get a job because we are jut older…………………too young for social security, too old for someone to hire us for a good job. Please help, we need our unemployment benefits, we need more time to find a job, this whole thing is an outrage, hurting millions of Americans because of your unwillingness to do your jobs, and that is to represent all American’s, and do the right thing by us. We voted for you, you will be voted out, and uh maybe you’ll be in our shoes one day, at the mercy of our unscrupulous, uncaring representatives. I have to go to her and ask for money to buy food, and she has paid our mortgage bill. I hate having to ask her, and I know she doesn’t really have it to give, but she knows we are trying. We need help so bad. Monday I am going to try to file for food stamps. It’s the only way I know we can make it until I get a job. I have been praying God will just put the right job for us in my path. I agree with the above poster who says the economy isn’t getting better. Rent past due January and February and then perhaps they will really see the real life issue and the need for unemployment extension .america is no longer the land of the free with dictation as to weather you can eat or pay your rent. Please realize you have to had worked a job to receive these benefits which seems to be greatly over looked. The UI benefits I was getting was barely enough to make it week to week so there was nothing to put aside for something like this. @Karlos I think it’s possible if there is behind the scenes negotiations going on that will come up with bi-partisan legislation that can be passed by both the House and the Senate. If it’s just more of trying to push through the same legislation that the Republicans won’t vote on without amendments (and some of the Republican plans to pay for it seem decent to me) then it will just be more talk. So, I don’t even want to guess at this point. We’ll see what happens tomorrow in the Senate.

I am a Republican, ot at least have held views which more closely resemble the Republican Party. However, and while it does not apply to me, am sickened by the petty poltics of my party to the detriment and hurt of millions of American’s out there, in the midst of long term unemployment. Are there individuals who abuse the system, yes, and so what. I promise you, for those who have been in the upper Middle Class, they are not finding the $300 or so a week, as something that is taking incentive away to get a job. That whole rationale is absurd. Get off your a..es Congress and do the right thing for the 1st time in recent memory!

Yeah, problem with these politicians is that they are completely out of touch of how it’s like out there. They don’t have a clue what it’s like sending out resumes/applications and not hearing anything back. They also don’t know what’s it like being broke as f*3k and being able to pay your bills or put food on the table.

I have been on unemployment since june 2013 and now its up I am not very good at math but I do believe I have paid in a lot more than 6 months of ui it does not add up. something needs to be done and it needs to be done quick a lot of people including me are losing everything we have worked hard for…

I have worked since I was 12 (paper routes, but taxes were taken out so it counts). I am now 44 and had never collected unemployment benefits until this past 6-month period until I was cutoff without warning. I have known people who have collected for years. Thousands of jobs have been lost in my area (northern California) in the past several months due to companies not wanting to pay benefits and California taxes. I am now facing losing my home and car while Congress decides my fate. Looking for work is itself a fulltime job and, while I have the skills, it’s extremely competitive out there and experience is often overlooked for younger age since companies know they can hire someone younger and less experienced and pay them less compensation.

Extending unemployment benefits would allow people to pay rent and purchase food as well as provide transit fare in order to get to and from job interviews. The money would then be directed back into the economy. Even if a select group of people ARE sitting back and living off unemployment without looking for work. The money STILL goes back into the economy. Beer is purchased. Snack treats for lazy hogs are purchased.
Perhaps fat pig faced congress men don’t need to wear several thousand dollar suits in order to do their job.
I guess once I run out of money and am no longer to perform the things above I will have to resort to other methods in order to eat and sustain myself. Turn me into a petty thief congress. Please.

It is extremely sad how Congress found a way to get families unemployed and not getting an extension (due to their acting like children not getting the piece of candy they want- instead of being here for The People of Ameirca) to have to use any type of tax return the family gets to only survive on. Another way to stab the American person. I have worked since I was 16 years old, I was let go from my job back on August 5,2013 while I was in the hospital (with four major surgeries on my kidneys at the time) out of work on Approved medical leave. Yes, that is NOT legal in the state of Texas. Being a single mom with my own health healing ( and searching online and applying for jobs morning day and night – seems to be a dead end way now days of obtaining a new job) problem is no companies will let you apply in person anymore. Companies are not hiring here in Houston, Texas and yes I am completely qualified for many open positions I apply for daily. I also have a son in college, whom now has to find another financial way to finish college. Also, with a young seven year old child with multiple Disabilities. My parents are ailing and have no monies to help us out, they have as much as they could since I was let go from my job in August. It is not fair Congress has NO Human Compassion!!!! Where are Human Rights here in America?!?!?!? Not seeing much of them anymore. Mr. President what can you do to reinstate the EUI benefits??? Please help All the American families affected by this horrible act from Congress!

(235) Angel says:

People are suffering because they are unemployed companies are not hiring them. These people have more than enough experience asking for minimum wage. And companies are still not hiring them. It might be the age as well as being unemployed for so long. Like myself I was on a medical leave and terminated from my job a year ago . My employer said I had to return to work or risk loosing my job. I was not released from my doctor to return to work. January 2013 I was terminated and I was released from my doctor after that date. Companies are making there own rules and not abiding by state laws. They have been for years. Getting rid of people who have been employed for years and either eliminating positions to get rid of the employee ,or layoffs. The point is companies need strict rules to abide by or charged with a very high penalties. And provide a local goverment agency to review the employees file to determine weather the companies have a good cause for the release of the employee with seniority.

(236) Todd Eagleton says:

Leadership in Washington DC or Sociopathic Behavior?
No concern about the lives of unemployed citizens

The definition of Leadership is defined simply as the capacity to turn a vision into reality through inspiring and motivating people. A Sociopath is defined as an antisocial disorder in which a person has a long term pattern of manipulating, exploiting, or violating the rights of others, without having a conscience. With the two terms being defined, where do some of our politicians fit under those two definitions? The politicians that do not care about human life, or the well being of EVERY family in our great Country, not just their own family, the wealthy, but ALL of us. Especially, in the time we need help the most. There is always focus on a problem with many of these politicians, and not focus on a solution to the problem. Yet, they create more issues (more problems) by not making a decision. A Leader would make the decision, and find the solution regardless of the outcome of that decision. A person who has no care for human life, without conscience, wouldn’t make a decision, or care about a solution.

(237) Todd Eagleton says:

My story (I don’t think it matters to anyone):
I have worked since I was 15 years old, with no “gaps” in employment, or terminations. Two jobs while going to high school, and three jobs during the summer months. I always prided myself on doing the best I could, and being the best worker I could be. I stayed with the same company for 25 years (through company acquisitions) with no employment gaps, lay-offs, or even missing time (only 5 sick days since 1988). I lived my life and served my employer with honesty and integrity, with values and character. My first time of collecting unemployment benefits, and this is what happens. On May 24, 2013, I was given a “Separation & Release” agreement (severance), and was told I had 21 days to agree / accept, or they would notify me by mail the reason for my termination. The “cost-of-an-hour”/payroll re-structure. I had led my team(s) to many years of company leading results, and always earned my position daily. I was proud of my position, cared about the 160 plus team members that I was responsible for, and thought of them as family. I cared about their families, their success, their goals, and their future. It was about development, and helping others succeed. I believed in them, and they believed in me. I believe that is an example of Leadership. I was a District Manager for a company, not a politician, and I realized many years ago that results, “numbers”/financials, budgets, always had positive results when I believed in my team (my employees), and they believed in me. It’s not about “numbers”, it’s about the people. A simple quote from Donald Trump “You don’t manage a business…You manage people.” Our politicians manage a budget, and many of them don’t seem to care about the people. That’s not why we elected them to office.

I saw the house of commons in England in action on cspan a couple of days ago. Both sides of the house were working together and getting things done. It was a remarkable event to watch, to say the least. I also watched our congress in session last week. It was embarrassing. We proclaim to be the greatest country in the world, representing freedom, and here we have the privileged conservatives, with their brown noses and breath that smells like 1% ass, turning their backs on our 1st bi-racial president, his party, and 1.7 and growing, unfortunate unemployed, who want nothing more than to be given a fighting chance to go back to work and secure their humble but significant lives. Is this the America we once knew ? Don’t blame the President ! Companies do not want to hire you if you are over qualified. I can’t even get an $8/hr job to call me back because i am over qualified. It is not far for those of us who are willing to work that these big chain companies won’t even give us a second glance.
Also, if congress/ senate were forced to only have a stipend for pay, then they would have to get real jobs too. and put that money into the funding of UE since we have all been paying in forever but there is nothing to show for it…
Come on Washington,,, take the pink glasses off and start talking about the elephant that is sitting in the room….

The president just hosted a dinner that will cost the tax payers over $500 thousand. I cant even afford a $1. burger. I can’t beleive that they can leave us with out the bascis after all the years I have worked. 46 years of paying taxes and they act like I’m lazy. May God forgive all the Republicans for not taking care of us. In 2008 when this all started not all the same people are still collecting. I know people that were unemployed and have found jobs and they did collect for a year and some 2 years but they are not on it now. Just saying Congress has a pay scale at the lowest that would take me 6 years to earn at my pay scale when I was working. So who gives these people a raise to bad we couldn’t vote there pay CUT.

(248) Jack Recht says:

There was a time when 2 parties disagreed and they say down and compromised to work things out when needed. Now, it’s all about what is best to promote re-election or what looks bad for the other party. While good, hard working people suffer, the people that are supposed to represent us, leave us to survive on nothing. We are not lazy and sitting around collecting unemployment instead of looking for work. First it is a requirement to apply for a certain amount of jobs each week. Second, the mass majority far exceed the minimum number of applications required including myself. If these electorates think this is easy, have a family member loss a job and try to find work without help from them. They are living in a world that doesn’t know the reality of losing everything and selling everything else you own to try to get by. It is not easy to put on an enthusiastic face every morning to face yet another day of rejection or worse no response at all from the thousands of resumes I send on the internet or drop off in person . I do it every morning and each day that there is no money coming I hope the these people’s representatives do what the majority of the people want and that is to extend the unemployment benefits so that those of us that are trying can keep our phone, internet and lights on and fuel in our car so we can get to an interview or to drop off more resumes. WHAT HAPPENED TO OUR POLITICIANS!!!!!

Those that voted against its I would encourage all to FIRE every rep who voted against it when its election time. But they will still be better off than you or I because they are paid for life. Only in American can we police the world for treatment of their people and sit back playing political game with American lives. We elected them to play chess with our lives. if they don’t restore the benefits some of us will be at checkmate, while they still will have they homes, food, cars, and everything else we pay for them to have. It is really sad to see what issues Congress feels are more important to discuss and resolve before the unemployment issue is resolved. While some of us that have paid our taxes (unemployment, federal, SS, etc) we sit and wait for these men and women to decide if we will still receive unemployment benefits. Where is Congress? Are you guys on break? Vacation? Maybe congress can share their wages with the unemployed while we’re waiting for their vote. People can not eat, pay rent, or buy gas for going to interviews. Our children suffer as well. This leads to added stress and depression on individuals who already struggle with the fact that their unemployed. Some individuals did not ASK to be the product of a corporation down size!! So congress I challenge you to live financially the way we do for 5 months and then have your benefits cut, call me when you want to talk about how bad our system really is and I will help you come up with a plan we can all benefit from!

I have a Bachelor’s degree and almost done my Master’s degree. I apply for jobs and attend numerous interviews. I can’t find a job or receive an offer and I lose benefits with their justification to say it is to motivate me as individuals like myself stay on unemployment when it is extended. I extend my benefits because no one is offering me a job not because I am lazy or not trying. If someone in the government did their job and tracked my interviews and applications they would see I have done everything I was supposed to. They say i am not eligible for any other type of assistance for my son and frankly i don’t want it, but as a honest worker for many years i would like what I feel I deserve until I am capable of finding a new job to provide for my family. (259) artemis814pa says:

I’m in my early 30′s. My job up and left and moved out of state leaving me unemployed. Unemployment ended in mid Dec with $3 paid out to me. So I cleaned out my measly 401K to get me through til I find work. Taxes killed that and left me with $2,500 to last me. I’m down to almost nothing now. March bills may not be paid which means credit cards, car repo, etc. Not only will my credit go down the drain, but leaving debt does not help this economy. Car repo means I’ve no transportation to find or maintain work. This is not NYC with public transportation (which I wouldn’t be able to afford anyway!).

I’m competing with $200+ resumes every time I go on an interview. I have an associates degree which doesn’t do much. I can’t even find work in the $30,000 a year arena which I’m comfortable with supporting a child. Companies want to pay $12 and under and have as few employees as possible. It’s very hard out there.

I can do with little, but how much little can I go? The $1300 month I received in unemployment was covering just minimum on bills. Not food, gas, etc. I used the little bit of savings I had to cover the extras and charged up my cards more than I liked at times. Now I haven’t seen ANYTHING from unemployment since mid-Dec.Do I go to the welfare office now? Ask for cash, food stamps, etc? They’ll only drag my unemployed ex-husband into this and try to squeeze pennies from him and ruin his life further. They’ll require I volunteer or “work” for the measly couple hundred dollars a month they give me which won’t even pay rent (and my rent is low compared to other apartments!). How am I to fulfill their work requirements when I lose transportation? How will I fill an application with no home? Am I even allowed to be homeless or will they take my child from me?

S#its about to get real!

I have not stopped working since I was of legal age to work and have paid into the tax system for over 42 years. I refuse to go on Welfare or Disability. The East Coast has been paralyzed from severe weather for months. Companies are closed or skeletal as nobody; including Human Resource departments are not able to get into work to recruit or interview. Companies are holding off hiring until they know they can actually have the interview.
I am not lazy, I am not expecting any government handouts, and I want to work. I am on the computer everyday applying for jobs and connecting with my social network asking about opportunities. I am also at the age where there is a “not talked about prejudice called age discrimination”. It can’t be proven, but on my resume should I put the dates I graduated from college anyone who can do the math can figure out that I am in my 50’s. However, if I leave off the dates that I went to school then an assumption is made that I am an older worker. Also, due to modern technology, you can simply google my name and address and voilà you have my age.
How do I apply for jobs when I cannot even think clearly because I don’t have basic human needs? Many of these Republicans like Rubio never experienced this because he lives in Florida where it is only once in a rare while that he may need to use his heat…and even then if it is turned off he still won’t freeze. These Republicans (and all of Congress) have/has more vacation time than any job I ever had. They are living in their pampered bubble completely missing the boat on who they are working for and that those of us not getting the EUC will have memories like elephants when election year rolls around. I never voted Democrat but this event has made me hit bottom and caused me to change my point of view on my own party.

When I got home I emptied out the bag and cried when I found money in the bag. God Bless this DR. And she said to me a quote from the Bible Matthew 19:24 it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God. Republicans will find they have to answer for this. they dont care because they have pay for life. This should have never happened. My fellow Americans need this extension.

(263) Kathy says:

Hello my name is Kathy and i am 51 yrs old and worked for an Areospace company in NY for 8.5 yrs and got laid off so i decided to take my savings and move south. I have gone back to school to be retrained and just finished my externship but i have not been able to find a job because everyone wants someone who has had at least a yr of on the job experience, i lost my unemployment at the worst time. I have exhausted all of my savings and i also like so many others am in jeopardy of losing my home and everything. I have my 6 yr old granddaughter living with me and i hate the thought of not being able to provide a roof over our heads. Please congress we need the senate to pass this bill and for it to be passed quickly for all of the people who have worked so hard all of their lives and and now when we need the government to be there for us they are not. My personal opinion is that the senate takes to many breaks in between votes this needs to be addressed immediately. How can we gain trust in the government if they do not stand up for the hard working people that put all of you in the offices that you are in. You need to step up and do the right thing and help us now. Please work fast we are all desperate.

(264) Chuck says:

PLEASE PLEASE We need help from our government to get back on our feet and to be called lazy and not looking for work is appalling to me. I have never used EUC and my regular UC ran out Jan 4th. We send so much money over seas and we cant get the republican party to want to help our own people. STOP using the American people for your own agenda. I hope if this does not pass this week everyone and I mean every unemployed worker does everything in our power to not have themselves and all of there family members and friends and anyone they can speak to not vote for any republican senators from here on out if they cant even help Americans in need and who have and will again pay taxes to pay there salaries that allow them to feed there families and keep there homes. Its time to take a stand against people voted in who cant even work out issues to help Americans need.

(265) Very upset person says:

When I went in the office to find out why they only paid me for one week. The lady informed me that , my benefits has exhausted and that we can only collect for 26 weeks. I was furious . She indicated to come back the next day to apply for the ceda program that helps you pay for your gas bill and light bill. What good is that if you won’t have any money to pay your rent or mortgage . The next step is eviction or foreclosure. Does everybody know where on going with this. It’s horrifying . The government shorted funds to the school system causing the principals to do massive lay off. They got us in this mess they should bail us out. We need an extension ASAP before I really lose everything. Everyone unemployed let’s all pray really hard cause we really need it !!!!!!

Another day of looking for work and no luck. This weekend I have to start packing and selling my things. I have no idea where I am going to live and no idea where I am going to store my things if I can’t find a place to live. I have no money to move anywhere. They are going to tuen off my power next week. My brother and his family of 8 live in a one bed room appartment now and there is not room for one more person nor woud there land lord allow it. I have no money to offer friends to take me in they are all living from pay day to pay day. The Republicans need to pass the federal unemploymet benefits. Why we can’t put a stop on there pay till they get the job done I think we should give them a 75% pay cut and no life time pay get a 401k like the rest of us who lost it all in the last great melt down of the banks and thay were bailed out.. Congress is out more than it’s in. It is not enough that the Republicans ruined Christmas for millions, then to still ignore us as we loose everything we have left is sad beyond belief because they refuse to extend the unemployment for benefits. I will continue to pray to God they will do the right thing.

I read all these posts and find myself in the same dire straits. Worked my whole life and paid taxes all along the way and I am a proud American. At 50 years old with a BSBA cannot find a job and have only collected unemployment benefits since April 2013, then without notice cut-off at Christmas. As if things were not bad enough, now looking at home foreclosure, vehicle repossession and being homeless. Sad to say but have considered suicide, but I will not let them beat me down. I thought the government was for and by the people. Ha, Ha! Vote all the bums out!

(271) Quint Eastwood says:

Having Read most of the comments above, I know I’m not alone in saying that Congress is betraying the American People. This extension missed by 1 Freaking vote. Are you kidding me!!

I’ve tried researching how the Congress voted the last vote but couldn’t find anything. Congress is playing political Football with people’s lives here. They are so quick to give handouts, and Citizenship to ILLEGAL Immigrants but won’t help their own Citizens.

Congress has an open Wallet when it comes to funding these Constitutionally Illegal FOREIGN Wars, but closes it shut when it comes to helping their OWN CITIZENS.

What will it cost Congress to fund a Unemployment Emergency Extension, 6 measly Billion Dollars. They just passed a 1.1 TRILLION Budget and they couldn’t put the funding for an Extension in this Bill?

I heard that Congress is planning on waiting for the Mid Terms Elections to be decided before acting on this.

People can’t wait any longer. They will be out on the streets and some even worse. It must feel good to you worms to have the power over people’s lives like you do. Like the KING who we fought a REVOLUTION over you can be toppled.

LOOK what happened in the UKRAINE! TAKE a good look. Because that is your future if you don’t wise up and start governing FOR the people not AGAINST the people.

Pay back is a Bitch.

It’s too bad that we can’t reply to any of these comments or contact the people who posted them.

What we need is to March on DC demanding the Extension. Let’s put the Ball in WE THE PEOPLE’S hands, not wait until Congress decides to act. WE NEED THIS NOW, not in NOVEMBER.

When people fear the Government you have TYRANNY!
When the Government Fears the People you have LIBERTY!

(272) Bill says:

I am a military vet, who is supposed to have a career at the USPS 28 years. I have been illegally removed due to racism and vindictive behaviors and interpretation of regulations as if those are open to interpretation.
I am fighting to get my job back for the second time. Yes they fired me for Being assaulted by a coworker and even his statement he said he hit me twice, I never touched him and the second time for reporting a violent and hostile employee who attempted to hit me with a piece of equipment.
Zero tolerance policy is being applied to the person reporting it not committing the act. Gotta love management blind eye to what she actually saw to keep her friends on the job.
My emergency unemployment benefits have been cut off, the USPS has cancelled my arbitration twice, My Mother passed and all I could do was pay for a cremation and a death certificate with my credit card and pray I will have monies to pay rent, electric bills, and life expenses while the USPS delays my meeting to fight this and get back to work. My wife is working so we are not starving, but she was injured at the same place 16 years ago and holds a Modified assignment she won in an EEOC case and these same people are now going after her. She took time off with FMLA case, documentation and leave to cover the time off but management LWOPed her pay meaning she was denied payment of her leave for bereavement. Retaliation for our union grievance arbitration and EEOC activities.
Having the Unemployment benefits would allow us to have some money coming in until this is settled. How can this country afford to fund other countries and feed people around the world but veterans and tax payers who have worked over 30 years not get help? I never thought I would be denied my ability to earn a living due to my race age and disabilities. Or see such blatant disrespect in a federal job force.

I do not understand how this cannot be passed yet. I am a single mother of 2 children and I work a seasonal job in the spring/summer every year. I am not just sitting around looking for a hand out. The fact that they are going on 2 months without passing it is beyond me. Do they realize that thats 4 payments families and households are not receiving and the impact it is making on many families to not receive income for this long? It is getting ridiculous and the economy is just going to get worse!! Get it through your heafs that this is affecting ppl so negatively I cant believe you people cannot think of that.. oh wait thats because you have your income and no financial problens that you dont care!!!!!!

(275) Carol says:

Please extend the unemployment benefits. I am 55 and was laid off from my job. I search, interview and send resumes EVERY DAY. I have actually been told by some potential employers they are “looking younger”. I am the picture, the face of the new middle class poor.

Companies don’t want to hire us even though we are experienced because they can higher “younger” for less money. We do not qualify for public assistance because we are not pregnant or in a drug rehab program…so no help there. We are the people who have paid into the unemployment system for 20, 30or more years out of our hard earned dollars and can get no help.

We are trying to pay our bills and mortgages and do the right thing, but our government has let us down AGAIN. Hey congress and Senate, cut your big fat paychecks! You are servants to the people! Walk in my shoes and you will surely change your mind.

My neighbor is 41 and out of work. We had a discussion about interviewing and trying to find work at our level or close to our level of experience to no avail.

Is the unemployment rate going down? NO We simply cannot find work, cannot get help from Public assistance and cannot earn the insurance that we paid into for so many years. Thank a look Congress, “We are your new poor!”

(276) Lil says:

I am tired of hearing people say that unemployment makes people stay out of work. I am 52 years old and have worked since I was 14. The last company I was with for 10 years and laid off in November of 2011. I have been looking for a job since and have worked some short term temp jobs, but no luck finding anything permanent. Because of this I have gone back to school part time to reinvent myself and change my career. I continue to look for a full time job during the day while I go to my classes at night. These companies want to hire people with little to no experience to pay them less or they outsource to other countries where the workers make much less. Something needs to be done to stop U.S. Companies from out-sourcing it is putting our people out of work and killing the U.S. economy. They don’t want people with 20-30 + years of experience. The joke is on them because they will lose money in the long run hiring people with no experience for my type of work.

February 25, 2014 at 12:04 am
(277) rusyu says:

There are people like me who deserves the extension. I have steadilyn looked for work everyday. I have been on several interviews and never get the call back for hire. I am a disabled american who enjoys working. Ibcan draw disability at anytime but I choose not to because I want to work. Its hard for people like me to find work. I have to find what I can do and its hard. At least interview people and then decide if they are eligible for the extension. The people abusing it makes it hard for those like me who wants to work but gets turned down because disability. Never judge. Some people do deserve the EUC.

I went to two places today that had new younger persons working when they said they were not hireing. Im getting so depressed. Im hungry and tired of only eating everyother day to make it last. We pay the governments salaries and where are they when we need help. paying more attention to the Oscars and what Mrs. Obama is wearing, Thanks USA. (287) Patricia Werkheiser says:

Please pass the EUC benefits there are many of us that have lost our jobs to younger adults because businesses believe they are saving money.letting those go who have dedicated their life to a company is no longer a good thing and want to pay less to someone just coming out of college. I worked for the same business, but after the company sold they decided to let all go that we’re making a good wage. I was with the business for 42 years, 1 month after my 60th birthday they told me my job was being eliminated and had me help train someone who was going to take my place. We are not all unemployed by choice and without a education only many of us with on the job experience we have been put out to pasture and are in limbo.

I have worked my whole life. I have not ever received an government help, I worked two jobs at times to make ends meat. I raised my child. Without the government helps. Now people look down on me because I don’t have a job and no money to pay my bills. I have looked for help but since I worked my whole life I can’t find help. Some people work the systems their whole life. But when I need help where is it. I never wanted to be in the place. I have applied for every job out there I could find. You people that think we are lazy and don’t want a job is wrong. I would not wish this on anyone. I pray to just die at times. For you that think it is easy to get a job just try. The people that have this jobs at store looks at your app. And say they don’t want to hire you because they don’t want to train you for you just final get a job and walk out on them. Hey! But if you have a job I’ll take it. I don’t care what the pay is. Because I get 0 now. And something is better than nothing. For you people who look down on us unemployed I hope you never find yourself in our shoe. Because at this point I just don’t know where to turn. But if that job is so ease to get just tell me where to go.

(292) Cynthia says:

Since 2008, the government has granted the unemployed extended benefits. After that ran out, some states gave additional benefits. The total time one could collect unemployment benefits was 99 weeks. I used to work for the Unemployment office in Pennsylvania. Now, I find myself partially unemployed (I have a part time job through a temporary agency), however I cannot make it on my part time wages alone. I have sent resume after resume out, still no long term, full time employment. It is so ironic that I worked for the UC Dept. of the state of Pennsylvania in the Federal & State extension “heyday” and I cannot get on an extension myself. I have no idea what I will do…..very sad situation for so many people. We are simply being ignored.

I’m right there with everyone. 50 yrs. old, over 30 yrs exp., college degree and no one is hiring me. Went to the agencies like the ones I’ve gone to in the past. By now I would have had over a half dozen interviews and probably a job. Now, the agencies seem like they just want to get people in and they have nothing after that. It’s crazy the way the world’s become. I need my unemployment now… damn it!

(295) Meg T says:

I have worked since I was 16 years old and volunteered before that. Over 30 years of paying into our unemployment. I received state benefits and now nothing since UNEMPLOYMENT doesn’t seem to matter to the rich republicans. They do not know what it is like going to bed listening to your stomach growl. I have never had much but what I do have I worked hard for and now may lose the very little I have. I am supporting my 16 year old son on soon to be “nothing” . I have $700.00 left in my State Unemployment benefits. I have never received benefits before and now I desperately need them and now they have not been extended.

Are these republicans so OUT OF TOUCH with their constituents that they don’t even see us anymore. They go to Washington as elected and into a black hole.

I have one statement to make “WE WILL REMEMBER IN NOVEMBER”

February 27, 2014 at 7:05 pm
(296) Bruce says:

The GOP has long over stayed its welcome. Republicans beware: you have screwed us over time and time again just so you can line your own pockets. Come election time…you’re out!! Hey McConnell, you listening? As the mealy-mouthed quintessence of what is wrong with American politics, why you’re still in office is baffling. You have done absolutely nothing for most of your career and you have the gall to collect a paycheck? Guess what…you’re out!! If I had my way, you wouldn’t get a pension, either. You’d be in jail for fraud!

Time for Americans to revolt! A political system that denies help to the people who pay for government yet freely gives our tax dollars to countries who hate us, is a form of governance that has outlived its usefulness. Why do we need so many parasites in Washington who care only about the wealthy who fund their campaigns (for which they will extract favors later!)?

Greed as a form of governance is not sustainable! Time to change!

So tired, depressed, no place to live & hungry. 3 more days of stress to wait for congress to get back to work. Hoping to find out before I move out that I can rent a room or do I have to live under a bridge. Sad ending to a person who worked 46 years, paid taxes and “was a Republican” and 60 years old.

I am requesting that the EUC be reinstated and fast!!! All of us are hard working citizens that aren’t looking for a handout. We want to work. We deserve to work. It amazes me how they think we are poverty stricken citizens who don’t want to work. Most of us (if not all) have college degrees. We aren’t dropouts. We’ve been working for years. If the shoe were on the other foot, I’m sure they’d be feeling the same way we do. I say cut their salary until they vote to approve EUC. I’m sure a vote would come quick then. We’ve elected these officials to represent us. This is the thanks we get? We need to vote and get these folks out of there. They come begging for our vote. We go to the polls and get them out.

(302) Diane Madison says:

It is obvious that Congress does not care about the unemployed. It is becoming more and more apparent that nothing is going to be done. As to the long term unemployed the majority of those over 50 years of age are finding it impossible to get jobs because of blatant age discrimination. The EEOC knows this is going on. Those at the unemployment office who are trying to help us get re-employed know this as well and even offer a seminar for those over 50. I propose that there be a class action suit against the government for not enforcing age discrimination laws. At the very least it will draw attention to the plight of the unemployed. As it is hardly any news is covering this any longer.

I finally got the job but now have no car to get to my new job which is miles away, and I also need my car to make home visits. So thank you congress for making my life even harder! Did I mention that I am a single parent who receives no child support due to a tricky non custodial parent his home is under his new spouses name and he doesn’t work! I could have been out of the jobless loop but now im even deeper in the mud!

All of us in our 50′s and 60′s can’t find a job, so we have to tap into our retierment savings and get TAXED OUT THE WAZOO becaus we have no other alternative to live! I understand congress wants to pay for expenditures, but how in the @#$k are they planning on paying for the 2 million plus that have no other alternative but to apply for social services? I didn’t qualify fir Medicaid while on unemployment, but now I do. And I haven’t been to a Dr. for more than a year or dentist because I couldn’t afford it. how about all the spectacular Dr. bills they have to pay, really? were is that money coming from. I`ve work 38 years and never asked the “system” for shit. I believe in getting what I paid for. I`ve paid in, now I need some back.

I pray these folks would put extending the unemployment number 1 on their list being you already kept us from getting this benefit 3 months now when folks after working so many years can’t find a job and even if they do we have to settle for less so that we have something coming in. We all deserve it since we have paid taxes like myself for 30 years on the same job. Please have a heart Senate and a Congress and think of us when you all are sitting at your table with your families having dinner of the folks who are struggling unnecessarily. EXTEND the BENEFIT already!

The government is very I’ve work for 30 yrs with no time out of work…When the economy first went down you had people getting full benefits and numerous extensions.Nevertheless these people barely worked five yrs..But yet they collect full benefits for 3 to 5 yrs..Now people who worked all of their life like me,get their benefits and cut off.Do u really think this is fare what is the point of working? The greedy government takes all your money that you worked for and do nothing when you help..I’ve watched so many people while I worked hard take from the system and get everything..What I’m saying is all the cut backs are just for the republicans to steal more money for them and their families…You care nothing for hard working people you will never get my vote…

I am hoping we hear something on emergeny unemployment soon, I have worked for over 22 years of my life and lost my job last july to no fault of mine since I live in a right to work to state unemployment was a relief now it has run out and emergeny unemployment has not been passed I sit here and worry, yes I have been and still do look for work lots of work. All of the places Obama has said will hire the unemployed that’s wonderful but none of those places are in my town, I live in a state that in about a month to two months I will have electric bills of about $ 250.00 to 300.00 a month depending on how hot it gets here in YUMA AZ. I am a single mother of 4 children and urge for this emergency unemployment to get passed. All of the time they have had to pass this and the weather is the excuse we get now come on trade spots and see how fast it gets passed this is something that should have been done way before it even ran out, I have never heard of so much shut down in the federal courts and closures of all these places due to weather please figure this out and let us people that are truly in need of money get our money we deserve.

My 89 year old aunt has given me a room in her house to stay all I have to do is buy a buss ticket to get to Where she lives 2000 miles from here. So at least at 60 I will not be on the street. Still hoping for the extension to be voted on so I can look for work and take my few things with me. There is no home less shelter here, I did find the food bank. I feel guilty getting food for free when I see famlies in the same spot I am in standing in line. Saying prayers for everyone of us in need of this extension.

There should be only a 2 term for representatives, in congress. All these senators are millionaire’s. Shame on them we pay for their vacation every year and for their families. Shame on you senators did you forget that we the people voted for you, and that is why you are living high on the hog. With the sweat of the American People. Why don’t one of you try and live
on $400.00 a week and see if you can pay your mortgage, buy food, gas, light, clothing, and see if you can take your family on vacation. Because I can’t do it, plus my unemployment ran out in December, oh I forgot you can’t vote on the unemployment because your excuse is the weather, do you think that the firemen, or the police officers who save lives say oh I can’t do my job because of the weather, or our Solders who fight for our freedom everyday say, I can’t go out there because of the weather. Shame on you all. Did you forget that the American People believe in you, and that is why you are there.

The saddest part about this mess of a situation is that we can’t even afford to protest. Not only is this unemployment situation a struggle but it’s such a disappointment in democracy. Where is the aid and assistance when you need it the most? Animals at a rescue shelter have it better than we do! At least they have the necessities of life.

I need this extension please, I am currently working only part time 1 day a week it was all I could find, most of the jobs that contact me via search engines are bogus, I will hopefully be hired with some of the interviews I had over the past month, I really need the help for right now or I will lose my apt and my car, if that happens I have to re do all my paper work about the interviews I’ve gone on.

(326) Garrett says:

It amazes me that our Government ” For The People” cares about no one but their own pockets and their party affiliations. I don’t vote along party lines , I vote for what I feel is going to benefit us all ( so sometimes the GOP has good stands , sometimes the Democrats do). This situation with EUC is ridiculous. People need to be able to live without the fear of no lights or heat in the winter or worse case scenario , no where to lay down at night, while they actively search for work. I was laid off in October and my State benefits ran dry Mid February. Despite what the GOP or Dems say, Job growth is not ballooning like they are forecasting or blatantly lying about . I may not be in the same boat as many of my fellow commentor’s ( since thankfully I am married and my spouse works Full time) but the effects of me not receiving any state or federal benefits while i search for work is daunting. Any supplemental income is better than nothing at all and the fact that we aren’t receiving ANYTHING is a sign for change. I think when these mid term elections come up, we fire them all. Then we take the time to hire responsible adults to run our country. Not 35-75 year old bickering children!

They have fancy dinners, vacations every month, free trips, somewhere to sleep and I bet it wont look like the room Ill be forced t stay in. Extensions are needed now not next week.

Mark Kirk of Illinois at 202-224-2854

Dan Coats of Indiana at 202-224-5623

Another week gone by and seems ne end it sight for extension. already had to move out of my apartment with my roommates, cell phone and internet service will be next to be shut off. The only thing it seems I have is my car to go seek employment, but lately I have to place band aid repairs to keep running. I am in CT and Senators murphy and blumenthal to need to tell other senators we mean business and help. Remember when a lady from morris CT was invited to the white to speak on how she lost her job, then her benefits ran out in dec. She also mentioned I believe she had a son in Irag. At the white president O’bama was clapping and applauding her, big deal. O’bama you are no help either. You are probably the worst president we have ever had. You are a loser just like some of the other senators. Extensions need to be restored right here, right now. If not, I will be seeking welfare assistance. Is this what our country wants to see, more people on welfare and food stamps. Speaking of welfare and food stamps, you don’t congress putting a halt to welfare and food stamps. why not!. As of late, this congress is starting to be a joke.

I collected Unemplyment for 6 months and cut off after working my job for 13 years. How am I to seek work with car or phone because I can’t pay the bill. It’s sad to say it looks like you are setting is up for failure. We are American and we should not be going thru this. Keep in mind we are the people that pay your wages and vote for you. We need our unemployment back. We should be posting resumes right now not fighting for what we should have. Only in America.

I will go out and vote. The state im in both sides voted for the extension. Im going to be moving to a state that republican s voted against it so I will vote them out. I made enough money selling my furniture to rent a room for a couple of weeks today is my last day in my appartment so an extension is coming to late for me to keep my apparment and furniture. 46 Years of employment im out of work 15 months and Im called lazy. I lost my job because of Obama care in the health industery. Im willing to work but despite what is being said the jobs are not there. Extensions are needed to help us job hunting soon to be homeless people.

Sinking fast! Why is it easier or acceptable for the GOVERMENT to hand me food stamps Instead of unenployment? I need to pay my bills! I need to be able to pay for gas for my car, pay for insurance, pay to inspect it and register it. I need to pay for my phone my Internet, a baby sitter.
I will not have the ability to even look for a job without these things? I guess I’ll become dependent on the GOVERMENT soon at this rate. I’ll move into public housing and collect all the goverment assitance programs availible soon, because that is where congress is forcing me!
It’s pretty sad that I have worked since I was 8 years old. I delivered news papers. I had 3 routs with three different news papers. I’ve always worked! I was in the Army! But now I can not collect a bennifit I feel I paid into all my working years. Over 40 year I have worked and when I need help all I can get is FOODSTAMPS!!! How do I pay my bills with food stamps? How does Congress think Foodstamps are better than extending unemployment? How does this make sense?
Thank you Congress (Republicans) for taking my ability to find work almost impossible! I want congress to know do to the reluctance to extend UPC, they have put me in the poverty line.
I will be 100% dependent on the GOVERMENT in less than 30 day!!!
Thank you Congress for exersizing your ability to do nothing and make a living at it! Bravo!!!!

The Senate has 2 bills for unemployment extention and no vote scheduled. I was lucky enough to find 2 temp jobs last year and was laid off both. One for lack of work after 90 days and the other and I’m only guessing that looking at the 4th quarter they decide to reduce staff a week before Thanksgiving after 140 days. I ran out of benefits first week of Feb.. Haven’t been able to find a job even part time had one interview and one phone interview. I look up unemployment news every day hoping for something to happen and it hasn’t. one bill is 10 days old and the other is 7 days and no vote. I vote Congress to get fired. 2 weeks vacation and no vote what’s going on. People are hurting in ways you can’t even imagine and you don’t do your job and call it politics. I call it immoral!
