Bullhorn LogoHow many recruiters are using social media to recruit? According to a new survey from Bullhorn, the global leader in recruiting software, almost all of them - 98% - are using social recruiting. That's why it's even more important than ever to have a social presence that is going to attract potential employers.

How do networking sites stack up? LinkedIn continues to be the top site for finding candidates, followed by Facebook and Twitter. Google+ and Pinterest are in the mix to a lesser degree. Here's a recap of the sites recruiters use to source candidates last year:

  • LinkedIn - 97%
  • Facebook - 51%
  • Twitter - 49%
  • Google+ - 19.1%
  • Pinterest - 3.6%

For 2013, survey respondents said that social networks they plan on using more extensively are LinkedIn (82.6%) ,Twitter (38.3%) and Facebook (37.4%).

In addition to more recruiters using social media to recruit, social networking is now is a leading way to find new clients, tied for the top spot with attending networking events, and ahead of joining professional groups and maintaining an online presence.

What's important in all this, even if you're not actively job seeking at the moment, is to be prepared to be found. Recruiters are out there looking and if someone is hiring for your dream job, it's important to make the best online impression you can.  It's a safe bet that someone will be checking you out.
