When your job search is stalled, and it's easy to get stuck when the job market is difficult, there are ways to unstick it and get back on track. It can be as simple as making sure you are finding the right opportunities to apply to, or as complicated as having to reconsider your career options.

You should be sure that you're looking for (and finding) all relevant job listings, your resume and cover letters are perfect, you're using all the job search tools that are available, as well as your online (and offline) connections who can assist with your job search. Here is what you need to know to unstick your job search - before you end up being in the position, like I someone I heard from the other day, of having sent out hundreds of resumes with no responses from employers.

Alison, i think you have provided an excellent summary to maximize the opportunities available in this difficult job market. Dotting the I’s and crossing the T’s are must to further your chances including contacting related recruiters, join relevant associations, social networking as well as following up on resumes sent.

Great points. Connecting with online friends and networking using online communities is an untapped tool by many. We’re going to need to get out of our comfort zone and broaden our use of other tools, outside of job search engines. Niche professional networking sites are a good place to start.
