Leaving a note is one way to quit your job. A secretary who couldn't handle her job lasted about a week. One Monday morning the rest of the staff came in to work only to find a note on the supervisor's desk saying she had quit and wouldn't be back.
Lisa shared her story of a company who had a VP who could be a bear: A co-worker left for lunch and when she didn't return, the VP checked her desk. There was a note saying "Life is too short, I quit".
From a professional perspective, when you resign from your job, you're supposed to resign gracefully and give notice to your employer, write a formal resignation letter, and be prepared to move on prior to submitting your resignation.
That said, when you're in a really bad situation at work, it can be tough to stay, even for a couple of extra weeks. If you do need quit without notice, here's a sample no notice resignation letter you can use. Do be prepared for some fallout when it comes to getting references from your employer, who is probably going to be ticked off.
