Applying for a part-time job isn't quite as complicated as applying for a full-time position. You can often apply online or in-person and you may get an on-the-spot job interview.
That said, you still need to take the time to stand out from the crowd, because the part-time job market is as competitive as the full-time one.
It's important to take the time to carefully complete job applications, make a good impression when you apply in person, and dress appropriately for a part-time job interview.
Cathy McCarthy, spokesperson for SnagAJob.com, the part-time and hourly job site, shares her job search tips for part-time job seekers:
Show your flexibility: Even if you want to work a part-time schedule, let hiring managers know your availability, and be as open as possible. The more you are available to work different shifts, the greater edge you will have over those with limited availability. If possible, be willing to work nights and weekends.
Spend time on your applications: Because of the bulk of applications being received these days, hiring managers are having trouble even reviewing all of the applications they receive. Therefore, help yourself land toward the top of the pile by filling out applications carefully. Many employers will ask screener questions that are specific to a certain job. The more completely you can answer these questions, the more likely you are to reach the interview stage if you are a good match for the employer.
