Whether or not you are leaving your job on good terms with the company and your boss, it's a good idea to write a formal letter of resignation.

Keep your resignation letter simple and to the point. Even if you hated your job, there is no need to put it in writing. Simply say you are leaving and the let company know your last date of work.
