The Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) reports that 55% of employers plan to increase social media outreach this year and 28% of organizations have a social media strategy in place.
That's good news for job seekers. You can take advantage of the ways companies are using social recruiting to connect with with job seekers - both those who are actively job hunting and passive job seekers who might be interested if the right opportunity came along.

On the flip side, employers are continuing to monitor employee use of social networking sites, so it continues to be important to be careful when using Facebook and other sites, especially during working hours. Companies surveyed reported that they have:
- A code of conduct for employee use of social networking for professional purposes (68%),
- A code of conduct for employee use of social networking for personal purposes (66%)
- Guidelines for social media communications (55%)
- Monitor social media use by employees on computer computers and handheld devices (39%)
- Disciplined an employee for violating social media policy (33%)
