I have been noticing more unemployment scams online recently, including websites that say they will file a claim for unemployment benefits or for extended unemployment benefits for you. These scammers are taking advantage of unemployed workers who are concerned about losing benefits and are seeking news and information on an unemployment extension.
Some of these scam websites, erroneously, even say that an unemployment extension has been passed and you can file for additional weeks of benefits on their website.
Every single website that offers to file for unemployment for you is a scam out to get your personal information. Sites that offer to "File For Unemployment Benefits" or say they have an "Unemployment Benefits Claim Form" or "Unemployment Extension Claim Form" are not legitimate.
It is important to know that you are the only person who can apply online for unemployment benefits and you have to file directly on your state unemployment office website. Third parties cannot file for unemployment benefits for you. All they are doing is taking advantage of unemployed workers who are already in a difficult situation.
Here's more on how to avoid unemployment scams.
